That's a little too far unless you can talk about the car scene in Jupiter

Seems to be the case with all the mid to south Florida clubs recently. People seem to be parking their classics.

I'm about an hour north - but grew up there and my folks still live there - what's up?

Guessing he is looking for some local info, other than this message he really has not given us much to go on. I'm 104 miles away, just under 2 hours if he needed something picked up, looked at, etc. But I know a few fellow VMF members are closer. Miami-Dade has all but shut down the car scene with their strict car show rules they made a couple of years back. Hardly anyone is willing to put one on these days unless they have ties to the county its self. So the action starts in Broward and keeps going north and west.

Just trying to see if there are other gearheads in town. Might be moving there so doing some research. Anyone go to PBIR?

We have gearheads. What you have to remember about most of Florida is, we do not suffer from the winter like a lot of other areas do. So we have events all over Florida year around. Large sponsored car shows like the Daytona Turkey Run to small club events. Monthly and weekly cruise-in's all over the place. Weekend morning Cars & Coffee events. As I mentioned below, Miami-Dade county shows are dead, but we have cars down here, and we have the Homestead Speedway, Palm Beach Raceway, Sebring and Daytona. Broward is less than an hour away from me, Palm Beach less than 2. Go to central Fla and you have weekly events at Old Town. There are events at Disney at least once a year. The West coast, Fort Myers, Naples, Tampa are only a couple of hours across the state where they have many events, attractions like Fords Garage. We have a large retirement community north of Orlando called The Villages. That has gotten so large, and full of car owners that they have a club and put on monthly shows. I'm typing all this but take a look here http://flacarshows.com/ for a very good listing of what is going on in Florida. Thank you Tara!

I have not had my car to take to shows, events for many years, so I know I am a bit out of the loop. But I am hoping to change all that this year, and then you will see my car all over the state, and then beyond. I will admit, I see thoes events in Texas and Cali, and I wish we had the turnout here. It does seem the newer gen cars are dominating the events these days, and people are keeping their classics tucked away in their garages.

Yes, we have 1/8 mile play ground at Homestead and the real 1/4 mile track at PBIR. Both are usually pretty packed when they have their events.

Grew up just north of Daytona Beach. Went to the turkey rod run from the beginning. Not much interest in taking the 66 to shows. Hoping there might be some racing interest other than SCCA. SVRA and HSR are options, but that's really too rich for me! I'd like to meet some similar gearheads.

And how could I forget the yearly NPD Pony Run and Silver Springs Car show? the 9-11 Patriot Cruise and Key West Power Cruise that both end in the beautiful Florida Keys!

I grew up down here drag racing, I remember many a night at Miami-Hollywood / Moroso Drag Race track. I went up to Charlotte and raced on their track twice in my own car. Officially I think they are called exhibition laps? I've had my big old Navigator on the asphalt oval at Homestead once, made it to 107mph. I've never done SCCA, SVRA, or HSR but might try them all at least once to have some fun! Gotta be careful as my car is not set up for real racing and I am sure it would do poorly at most events. Even if you do not have a car in an event yourself, many things can be fun with the right people.

Jupiter is not exactly next door for me, but if you (or anyone else) are interested I am sure we can arrange to meet up sometime.

Are you married to the Jupiter area? Like I said - I grew up there and while there are some decent areas....it 'ain't what it used to be......

I don't know of many gear heads down there - although there are some - no doubt.

Here in the Vero area there are a few. I'm broke and my car needs a lot of body/rust repair, so I'm no help as far as bringing a car to the track. I know a few locals with cool cars - one is a member here ('67 hardtop trans-am replica/type), although he only posts once a year - it seems. The other is not a member here, but has a couple of nice cars. He usually has a HiPo motor on the engine stand, working on his HiPo convertible or tuning up the fastback that he tracks all over the SE US. Another guy has 3 or 4 warehouses full of domestic & foreign dream cars, think 50's and 60's Ferrari/Maserati, Porsche etc...he has a small track (3/4 mile by 3/4 mile across the street from his house and plane hanger...he is always wringing out some kind of car....you get the idea.

Besides, you could have the honor of meeting me if you moved a bit north of Jupiter....lol
