Default Moving to Winston-Salem

Hey North Carolinans!

Stopping in to say Hi! I just got a job in Winston-Salem and will be moving in around the 1st of the year. Having lived on the West coast for much of my life, this will be a new experience for me. Anybody familiar with the Triad area? Any VMFers around? I know a few folks in the area, but haven't met any of you. I'm looking forward to it, though.

Daniel

Moving from Oregon to North Carolina. That's a long way to go...

Anyway, Let me be one of the first to welcome you to NC. I hope you enjoy your new life here. I live in Asheville, a couple hours west of Winston-Salem. Have relatives in the area though. It's not a bad area, lots to do. Sporting events, outdoor activities. You've got the beach to the east and the Smoky Mountains to the west (These will seem more like hills to you since you are used to Mt Hood and Mt St. Helens, but at least they won't blow up ). You're also in the middle of NASCAR country if you're into that. There's a pretty good car scene here if you search around a little.

Are you bringing your '66? Maybe we'll meet up when you get here and check out each other's cars.

Yep, I'm driving the 66 out... We'll see how that works! With the overdrive, I can keep up with traffic and can pull decent mileage (~25mpg), too. I've put miles on the car, but only a hundred at a time or so. I have a lot of parts, but I can't take them with me much, so will have to get rid of them. Look forward to meeting you.

I don't live there, but I went out to Charlotte North Carolina for a swap meet at the speedway and man is it nice out there. Pretty scenery, pretty girls and everyone is into cars. I thought I had died and went to heaven!

You're driving your 66 Mustang cross country?!! You will definately have to start a thread on that experience when you get here. I hope it all goes well.

BTW, don't let Dragpak428's comments paint a picture of car nirvana here. Sure, there's plenty of people into cars, but Dragpak was probably at one of the huge car show/swap meets at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Not gonna see many people at an event like this that aren't into cars, LOL!

My company runs an area in the Triad. If you need any specific info, give me a PM and I'll see what I can find out for ya! Have a safe trip east!

Not sure if youre here yet, but welcome to the land of uncertainty. Supposed to be in the 60's tomorrow, and then expecting snow on Friday. Out of all these people I probably live the closest so far, I'm in Sophia, bout an hour drive to the East. Hope you enjoyed your trip down.

Archdale is reasonably close. I was in High Point this past week and Charlotte last weekend.

I'm here, snow and all. I ended up shipping rather than driving the Mustang. The late-Dec/early-Jan nationwide snow events helped me make my decision. The open trailer didn't help on the rust front. I have more rust underhood (bolts, brackets) in one month than I had in the previous 8 years in the desert. I need to wash the entire car to get the salt, crud etc off the car.

Can't wait until spring when the salt is gone...

Glad you made it safe and sound. I think you made a smart call by not driving the Mustang. Sorry to hear about the rust issues. Better take care of that before it spreads. And....it's snowing again this weekend. Hope you have a dry garage to store the '66 in. (Just think how bad it would be if it weren't for global warming)

Welcome to North Carolina!
