Hence why I think they let guys like me run with just lap belts. The net effect of a lap belt is probably less severe than shoulder belts stretched to the floor.
I don't feel the safest with just the lap belts, but that's why I'm on deck to build a dedicated track car.
To tell you the truth I'm more concerned about that spear sitting right in front of my chest. It will be nice to get that out of play as well.

from the SFI Foundation, which sets and administers standards for specialty/performance automotive and racing equipment, including those for restraint systems in use by sanctioning bodies NASCAR, NHRA, SCCA, etc. The acceptable range for the belts going down from the back is no more than 5 degrees, not 45.
