Default Piston Question

I just pulled the stock heads off of my 289 and the pistons are TRW L 2218 30 over. I am having a tough time finding specs on the pistons. They must be discontinued. One person told me they were forged 10.5 to 1. Anyone familiar with these pistons?

Default Re: Piston Question

I didn't find anything other that a few posts on other forums asking pretty much the same question. I'd say they have been replaced by something. Good thing is though, at least they're forged.

Here you go:

TRW Forged

That might be somewhere you can start.

I have some specs out of a 1999 PAW catalog.
L2218F .030. Flat top, 4 reliefs, full floating pin
Ring grove 5/64-5/64-3/16
Comp ratio, 54cc-9.6, 58cc-9.2, 60cc-9.0, 63cc-8.7, 69cc-8.1.

It doesn't list the deck clearance or gasket thickness but I have an old TRW catalog that measures 289 pistons with a 0.42" compressed gasket and .011" deck clearance but it doesn't list the l2218f piston.

i used trw l2218f .030 in a 289 back in the 70's with 53.5cc heads and according to the trw book that gave me 10.5:1 compression. these are flat top pistons and and very strong. i had #5 intake valve drop at about 5500 rpm the head was destroyed but a very slight indintation was put in the piston, not realizing what happened and thinking a plug or something had fouled i drove the car for a day like that !
