Default Strengthen Spring Towers

How necessary is it to strengthen the spring towers on my open track car? My towers are solid/rust free and all the measurements in the engine compartment are dead on. (I used my factory original 65 Fastback as the source for the dimensions.) I plan to run a 347 in the 400+ range but since this car will not be a "track only car" is it really necessary?

I have a Pro-Motorports spring tower kit that was to be used on a "dedicated track car" that I have since sold. A trial fit of the kit indicates most of the various pieces will require a great deal of massaging.

The temptation is to do a "while I'm at it" but, with an export brace and Monte Carlo bar wouldn't be an overkill for a street/track car?

Has any one used this kit and do you have any pictures you could share?

I've been OTing my car for 4 years+ now and haven't seen the need to add any more than beefing up the original spot welds with some beads during the restoration.

You could consider a reinforced lower cross member, like described in the Boss 302 chassis modification manual (a $10 booklet available from most vendors). Some vendors, like Cobra Automotive also sell them. The Boss manual also has some tips for reinforcement.

The chassis and engine modification booklets (among many other interesting pubs) are available as PDF downloads at no cost from the Mustangtek Library.

Henry, I'd like a bit more info on what is going on here. Been contemplating doing something like this from the firewall to the fenderwell just outside from where the monte carlo bar meets the fenderwell. Is that what you've done here?

Deviousfred,

Yes, this bar is welded up to a plate in front of the shock tower adjacent to where a stock Monte Carlo bar would be fastened. This bar passes through the firewall and is directly welded to the roll cage. To avoid tire interference, locate this bar as far up close to the fender as possible. Originally, this bar interfered with the tire and has been modified as seen in the image above. The image below shows where the bar is welded to the cage:
