This is the story. I recieved my car a few days ago and finally got to inspect it. It is a 63B candy apple red with red interior and a 3 speed. Is it possible it is a gt car? I know only 5,363 fastback gt were sold.
Its got the white stripe and gt gas cap and the deluxe interior. Thanks!
The GT option was available only in the early part of the 69 production run. So if you have a early 69 it's possible. A Marti report will clear that up as well as some other questions you might have. Brian
Well, the deluxe interior had nothing to do with whether it was a GT, but if it has the HD suspension (thick springs and sway bar, close steering) disc brakes, and 351 or larger engine then it's a maybe. Get the Marti.
It looks like the proverbial "piano being hoisted up to the 4th floor" fell on it. The Three Stooges had to have been involved!
According to the windshield the drive shaft is inside. Maybe it came up through the floorboard when the piano struck.
I'm sure if I am wrong I will be corrected, but the GT did not come with the "Mustang" script badge on the front fender and the driver's side mirror was a remote mirror. Not sure if it came standard with the GT package or not, but mine had a chrome rail that ran along the rocker panel just below the stripe.
I had the original steel wheels and GT caps and put them back on the car.

Looks like the OP found the 69' project car he started looking for a few months ago. Nothing there that can't be fixed, and most of us (I believe) have seen much worse starting points.
Another vintage mustang to get new life. Thumbs up.:thumbsup:
Pete is correct, I was thinking of the Mach's that do not have the Mustang Script. 69's also did not have a GT badge on the front fender. Though my GT was in original paint and as far as I could tell, was in all original condition, mine did not have the Mustang Script on the front, nor did it have the pin holes. I never had the front fenders off so do not know if they were filled.
Here is another photo from 1978 when I just purchased the 69 GT (the engine had been pulled for a rebuild) and then the 70 Mach, which though a little beat up, ran well.
'69 GT was an early option that faded out with the popularity of the Mach1. I have an NOS Ford ( black) stripe kit for the GT option. PM if interested.
Randy
Thank you all for the responses! To answer some questions. Its a 351, ac, ps, front disc brakes and driver mirror is a remote,
The rear end issue: When it was going to be lifted, by a fork lift the driver hit the car right at the wheel and all the rear end "fell off" so i got it at a reasonable price. It looks much worst then it actually is. ( my english is bad sorry). Thanks for your help guys
Most likely a GT if it has a gas cap but some fakes are out there. The best way to confirm is to get a marti report. As noted it does have the script mustang on it. Around 5400 GT were made if I remember right. Of the GT there were 1127 verts per my marti. Interior could be either deluxe or standard I believe.
Sure. It was the "standard" transmission. I once saw a 69 Grandé with a 3-speed. You had to pay extra for anything else. The 64-65 K code came with a 4-speed, and the BOSS came with a 4-speed. Oh, and the 428 CobraJet.
Oh forgot to mention that they were making GT in May mid may. Production retool started mid-late july with 1970 cars showing up early aug. So, I wouldn't state the fact that they only made GT in early in the run of 69. This is a common mis-conception of the GT. Mine was built 5/19/1969 and sure mine is not the last of the GTs. The GT did not have too much stuff that was exclusive to GT model besides the Gas cap. So if people ordered them, they got them. Thing was everyone wanted Mach1 so ford decided to phase out GT model year 1970
I thought they did but could not remember. Yes and they come with 3 speeds. Mine had a 3 speed with 4v 351W. White Deluxe interior. White buckets with black components. Original poster, get a marti report. Also, remember just because it is rare does not mean it is worth more. People still like the Mach1 more than the GT. I have a vert so there was not a Mach1 vert or it probably would be worth more than my GT vert. But the 69 GTs are pretty rare.
Terms early and late are often confused on model years of cars. Don't know when this started.
When I was a kid in the 50s us guys would ride our bikes the the big state fair building in Indianapolis. We'd look through the high windows in the huge exposition area. In July/August that building was empty and available for new car storage. We'd see new models from late July through mid August.
So if you go by auto production schedule/year a car built in late May is a very late build of that model year.
Ford introduced the Mustang in mid April 64 part of the hoopla was it was an all new 65 model.
It is noted a few places on the Marti. Under the options as GT Equipment Group but will also be listed in the statistics box.
