Do NOT go cheap on a flywheel. There are numerous threads on here about off brand flywheels vibrating like no other because they weren't balanced correctly.

Either find a good used original or spend the money on quality parts. The last thing you need is a flywheel or clutch failing and sending parts through the floor.

As for a clutch, I've had good luck with Spec, Mcleod and Sachs clutch. All make good stock and stronger replacement clutches. The one Ram clutch I used was awful, heavy and nonlinear (on/off). The RAM flywheel I used did allow the flywheel bolts to engage far enough into the crank, returned it in favor of a Mcleod flywheel.

I've fitted my new spec clutch and billet steel flywheel and now the starter has a loud whistling noise when it starts, the old flywheel was 160 teeth, new one is 157 , what could it be ? and what can i do to remedy the issue ?

Is it sort of a whrrrrrrrrrrrr? Like dem crappy Mopars? I cringe every time I hear one starting up.

What I understand is the 160 & 157 are interchangeable.
It could just be gear whine from the mesh of bendix to flywheel, might not be a real problem since I cant hear it. I dont suppose you got a new starter as well? You might pull the starter and see how it is meshing and wearing with the new stuff.

Have you heard a gear box that has straight cut gears? Whrrrr all day and night.

It makes like a whistle and then a whoosh noise, it was quiet as a mouse with the old clutch and flywheel, trans is a T5, i pulled it once and it hadn't damaged the flywheel or the pinion, it starts ok but it's incredibly loud.
Heyyy ! there's nothing wrong with mopars Lol

Get your phone out, take a little video. I'll bet someone here will diagnose it.

Garage
Clutch

I installed a LUK stock clutch kit and tossed the Borg and Beck three finger on my 289 "A" code 4spd Toploader and it is plenty good.

Post it to YouTube. Copy the link from YouTube and past it in the internet link icon (Earth with chain link icon). Remove the 's' from https prior to selecting ok to insert the link to the post. YouTube video will appear in post.

Patrick

Right i've fitted the new spec clutch, billet steel flywheel, TO bearing, a new pilot bush and i've replaced the bushes on the Z bar. The clutch pedal is lighter but it still shakes violently when i take off unless i ease it out slowly.
The engine mounts look ok as do the trans mount, should i take the heavy spring off from under the dash ?
