Need Engine rebuilt Midwest/Chicagoland

Hey Guys ( & Gals?) I'm new to this forum, so excuse me if I don't follow normal protocol. I have a 66 Mustang convertible with a straight six cylinder engine.
The car sounds like crap and dies out a lot. But, it looks great and is fun to drive. I recently purchased a complete 66 Mustang coupe with a 289 appears to be unmolested original car. My thought was to swap out all the mechanical components, but the cost is beyond my reach.

So, I'm thinking of rebuilding the straight six and keep the car original. Prices seem to be all over the place. Can anybody recommend a competent engine builder in the Midwest. Don't mind traveling up to 4-5 hours each way.

Where in Chicagoland? There's a couple Mustang resto places in the area with good reps.

Drop me an email (bigjim at speakeasy dot net) with your contact info. I have a friend who builds engines and trans to owner's specs. He rebuilt the 302 in our 68 GT/CS and built a custom performance engine for my 69 Camaro. He is located in Sleepy Hollow (a mile from the Elgin IL-31 exit on I-90).

Just west of the City. Western Springs. Between Hinsdale and LaGrange. But I can go anywhere within a few hours of here. I got lost up on the North side today and by accident found a Vintage Mustang shop up on Irving Park in Bensonville, but the guy was at an auction in Indy, I'll try to contact him over the weekend. Also a Porsche guy up that way too, which can help with another unrelated problem.

Tom, are you contemplating that rebuilding the six will cost less than swapping everything ? I don't that will be the case. LSG
