My 67 vert has the factory 8-track option. It has the speakers in the bottom of the doors and speakers on a vertical panel in the rear of the trunk. Is the mounting of these rear speakers factory or were they added my a PO?

Did the factory 8-track option have the 4 speaker setup?

Don't know about '67, but in '66 there would have been no rear speakers with this option.

It depends. If the radio is factory then you should have the factory style wiring in the door jambs and to the speakers with wrap and number tags (not some home made stuff)

Is the rear speaker in a metal frame with metal cover/grate? The rear speaker could be the dealer installed rear speaker kit used since the early 60's (available as a separate accessory) and was included in the earlier reverb dealer installed kit. Again it would have a wirign loom not indiviual wires. The fram would carry a Ford number. But most likely its just some PO adding speakers ;(

No there was no four speaker option in that year from the factory in these cars. Please understand that just a few years prior FM wasn't even stero.

On the 65-66 cars with AM/8-track, the center dash speaker was deleted and the door speakers were your only choice.

Below is a picture of the trunk. The wiring loom does not look like a backyard job but it does not look factory either. I have not had a chance to open the roof and look behind the panel for the wire mesh grille yet.

It appears that someone installed a factory replacement set of speakers (non-Mustang specific kit) This may have been a dealer or a PO at some point.

They have weather shields on them which was typical for door mounted speakers from car makers. They also have a wiring loom that appears to be a factory style.

Would check for small wire tags with a part number or the back of the weather shiels

The weather shields have a Ford Logo and part number stencilled on in black ink. The part no. is faded so I can't make it out. The back of the speaker does have what appears to be a part number C8AA38808 or C8AA18808. There is no tag on the wiring loom.
