Any good ones that are easy to go from? I need to hook up the choke on my carb and my HEI.

On the back of the ignition switch is a threaded stud that is a "keyed" 12 volt source. It it a challenge to get the wire and nut on and tight, but it IS a switched 12 volt source. There may be others, but I didn't see any other posts.

I used the brown wire that connects to the blower motor. It is fused, switch, and close by.

and my HEI
There's only ONE place I would hook a keyed source for the HEI ... the red/green ignition wire comming out of the back of the ignition switch before it connects to the pink resistor wire. Reason being is that this is the ONLY wire in the car that is hot only when the key is in the on/start positions and cold at all other times.

You can get by with hooking the choke to the heater wire, but I would not want power going to the HEI with the key in the accessories position, which is what you'll get if you use ANY other source in the car (with the exception of the alternator's stator post, and you don't want that for the HEI, either ... power only once the engine is running).

hey johnpro
with as many posts as you have
you might know what your are talking about

we have been looking for a keyed 12v source for our
new coil and fuel injection unit.

i looked on U tube on how to change out the ignition key
ie take out instrument panel (few screws)
then one has access to the ignition switch
which we needed to change anyway
and here was an easy way to tap into the
red with green stripped wire you mentioned above.

i plan to disconnect the 'pink' resistor wire from the red/green wire
and hook up a source that has 3-4 plug ins for a 12volt keyed source
then put ignition switch back in and we're ready to go

in the top right of my picture is a bolt with about 3-4 things
hooked to it that were bolted on to the back of the ignition switch
all apparently needing 12volts.
from the wiring diagram
this seems to be the power source to the ignition switch
so would not be keyed, is this right

thanks
dave

It looks like you have it right, but you really need to invest a dollar or two in a 12 volt test light for confirmation. I remember needing one years ago and taping a length of wire to a spare tailight bulb and moving forward. A simple test light is every mechanic's very first weapon in dealing with any sort of electrical problems.
BTW, one of the problems with replying to 7 year old posts is that the person you are replying to may not only not be a member anymore, he may not be among us at all. Many of us miss johnpro, he would have been happy to help you.
