Default 1964-1966 Or 1967/1968?

Which out of these 2 is the most popular at the moment in terms of value? Providing they have similar options and condition etc, i've always thought the 67/68 were the more sought after?

I think it's difficult to generalize value only given the year, however I personally prefer '65-6 if talking Fastbacks and '67-8 if comparing Coupes or Verts.

i have owned both in coupe form, at the same time. i love the more aggressive look of a 67/68, the ride is better, the is more room inside, there are some more 'safety' advances....that said, i sold my 68, which was very nice, and have kept my 65 and am turning that one into my dream car. i like the simplicity and the ease of modification.

68fastwilliams.......dont sell that fastback untill you HAVE TO. you will regret it, no matter what you replacit with. trust me. =]

I have had many Mustangs. SWMBO had a 67 when we met, I replaced it at real big price with the 67 in my sig pic. A 66 was my first car and it spent more time on blocks than on the road. My second was a 66, just an awesome car. Very fast. My third one was a Boss 351. Another awesome car. My first FB too. So, don't sell your FB. I regretted it when I did it, and you will too. I got the 67 in the sig pic and a 66 coupe, loved them both, but I prefer the 66. I sold my 66 and a Sunbeam project for the 65 FB. We were looking for a 67 FB when I found this one. I always liked the 67 body more and the 66 interior. Never had a 65 until now. Don't let anyone tell you that they are the same as the 66. There are some subtle differences.

So to sum it up, the 65 has grown on me and everytime I think about selling either car, I just go out and start them up and drive one of them. No more desire to sell. When I am driving the two, I prefer the 65. Well, I just prefer the 65 period. I would trade it for a 66 though, the seats seem just a bit farther back in the 66 and I fit them better.

Oh, as far as safety, the early 67 I have is pretty much the same safety wise as my 65 and it weighs more.

The 65 66 cars are classic and beautiful and it is truly too bad that they were made in an era when a redesign was customary every 2-3 years rather than today's 4-5 year cycle. We could have averted the tragic 67 68 design altogether. 'nuff said.

68s were always my favorite which is why I have my fastback. Buy whatever makes you happy.

Keep an open mind and go look at and drive cars for sale. The one you can't live without is the right one - doesn't matter what year - each car is completely individual. The difference in appreciation value is inconsequential. They are all fun to drive when set up right...

Good post dobrostang! I looked at many year Mustangs. 66's, 69's and I was lucky to get my 68 vert. All years are nice! The 69's are even nice, they have more options to get a loaded model. However, the 68 to me looks more like a muscle car. However, everyone has a favorite car, which is cool!

I don't like the front ends of the 67/68...they look like they're crying....

I prefer the smaller size and lighter weight of the 65/66's all around...

I think generally as far as coupes go, the 65/66's have the most value, and would agree that the 67/78 fastbacks may have more value, I'd say mostly though because of the big block options that came with them

I don't think the 67 was tragic. Many people see this design like a sexy woman's curves. Some see it as agreesive. I am biased to this year model obviously.

The 65-6 cars were strong enough for a man, but made for a woman...lol

The 67-8 cars were made for a man, and Steve McQueen proved it.

Either model, I love them all! I have much respect for Mustangs of all years. They all had a purpose, and always looked decent. In many ways, the end product of each generation was an answer for the times, and Ford delivered for the most part.

As far as value and desireability, there's an *** for every seat. We are now in an era that a big block = $$$$$. The "movie cars" were pulling in the big money for a while, but now I think that phase is slowing. To keep it fair, compare prices of the basic 6 cyl cars between generations and you'll get your baseline answer.
