72 302 heater hose routing

Reinstalling new hoses and can't remember which is in and out of core at firewall. They are side-by-side. Does anyone know which is which? Closest to engine (inside) vs. closest to fender (outside)? Also, as I understand it, manifold is out to core and return to engine is at water pump. Please advise. thanks guys.

This is an earlier diagram, but may help.

At first glance, I thought maybe you were looking for vacuum hose routing, which can be found here:

Thankd 22GT, for confirming the direction of flow. Also thanks for the vacuum hose diagram, ad I know it will come in handy later. Howver, my '72 302 is showing two ports at the firewall to the core being side-by-side, and not one above the other. Should I assume the farthest outboard from the engine is the "in" like the lower one in the diagram?

I think so, although with the design of the later heater it's probably not as important as earlier versions.

I found the official answer: the heater core port closest to the engine is the heater core intake from the manifold, and the heater core port closest to the fender is the output to the water pump.
