Default Severe Draft?

We took the 68 convertible out for its first real long drive today. The morning weather was a little nippy as was this evenings, so we rode with the top up for the first time also.

Once on the highway, there was this very strong draft coming from under the passenger front bucket seat. We are talking pants leg flapping. Now I have never had the seats out, but have had it on a rack MANY times and there are no holes visible at all let alone buig enough to cause this kind of wind. We rolled the windows up, then down, no change.

We stuff towls under the seat and the draft came up from the sides.

We have owned the car almost two years now, and have driven it extensively, and have never felt anything like this before, but we always have had the top down.

Before i get in the garage tomorrow and start taking things apart, does anyone have suggestions on where to start or what the cause might be?

Thank you in advance.

Was the flip up door to the heater open- the one that's above your right foot on the PS of car? If the heater control lever is set a certain way (the "up" position IRRC), if that door is open you can get a mild hurricane blowing up your skirt (ahem...) on the highway. The air can blow around a bit in the car.
Another idea - did a rubber floor plug fall out?
Just some ideas, hope it helps a bit.

The heater door was not open. I checked it as soon as we pulled over. The "wind" was definitely coming from under the seat and not from the fire wall. When we put the towel under the front edge of the seat the "wind" coming up from the sides was very strong, but there was no draft what-so-ever in the back passanger side floor board, nor any where on the drivers side.

I will get under and check the rubber floor plug in the morning.

Thanks.

Check the passenger door gasket. You might have lost some under the door shell and wind is coming in under the door and then to the seat area.

My only other thought was the heater door as well (I've forgotten mine and left it open too)...

Good luck with it...
