Is anyone else here getting as tired as I am of seeing the thread on 211 being locked? I don't have a dog in this fight, and personally don't even like the early cars, but do find the topic interesting.
Is this a controversial topic? Certainly
Are some pretty harsh things being said. Most definitely.
Is it educational and informative of the process the emotions. Of Course.
But does it need to be locked on a whim? Nope.
What's happening is that the person who has found the car and is trying to politely and informatively share his find is being prevented from doing so. Effectively giving the 212 group their goal. Let it run its course, the proof is in the pudding.
PM the offending parties, and if necessary, restrict THEM. Don't penalize the rest of us from being in on an exciting discovery.
The owners have even devoted a sticky to the topic and have recognized that we were the first forum to see the discovery. Let's not chase it away due to the pedantic locking of threads and letting a group with a vested interest block the news.

Reason: No dog in the hunt.
Maybe the 211 owner could just PM the admin's here with the latest update, and the admins could post that text in a locked thread. That way, we can still learn what is going on without the riff-raff.

Or the Admins could delete the offending information just like they did with the information posted regarding the owners website. There are other options besides locking it down.

As noted, maybe the moderators could do some due diligence and just delete any post with mention of 212 and keep it "on topic"?
Radical concept!
Interesting info (even to a "'67-'68 big block guy") if it sticks to the facts... which "211" seems to be posting. And not threadjacked by "other" issues raised!
Just a thought!

The volume of views and posts the 211 thread created were by far and away the most VMF has had for along time.I was tuning in a couple a times each day and I have not done that in some time.
Other forums had threads started just to follow what was going on here.
I also have been on the phone talking about this with others and know at least one other that joined VMF for this thread alone.
Look at some of the people in the mustang world who were chiming in. First timers like Perry Los Kamp, and Bob Fria.
As a moderator/admin/whatever I can say that it's generally our policy to edit threads as little as possible and to let conversations develop naturally. If things get off the topic of the original post, that's fine, but when things get nasty (by whatever party) we have to act.

I understand the need to act, but a complete pulling of the plug is overkill. Again, as noted above, it has been one of the biggest drawing threads in awhile, and the people it has drawn have far outweighed the idiots it has drawn.
Selective editing and MODERATION would allow productive growth and discussion of an exciting and interesting topic.

I'm tired of locking them. If things remained civil on all sides I wouldn't have to.
Understood and appreciated, but it kills the conversation entirely, and plays right into the 212 groups hands. If they can squelch 211's existence, life's good.
I understand that you don't want to edit every thread, but this one is one that has sparked the interest of many. Don't let a few idiots chase the topic to another forum. This one bears some editing. A simple update like the one below would be much more worthwhile. Let's try to use common sense even when others can't.

As far as 211 being locked, based on this pic, it looks unlocked to me.
So I have a Mustang question, when did Mustangs start using gromets? (how ever you spell that word, the plastic o-ring between the plastic knob and the actual metal of the door lock hole)? My car 5f08u100465, like 5f08f100004, 5f07u100211 and 5f08f100001 have the same lock holes. Wonder when it stopped and shifted to the regular 1964-1966 we are all use to seeing. I think I can remember seeing production cars 700 or 800 with the plastic groumets years ago.....

It's clearly an obsession...
Whats in your garage?
Got it and appreciated. Nick and Todd have been very upfront and informative in the COLLECTIVE discussions that took place to decide to lock the posts. While I understand and appreciate the thought that went into the process, I would prefer to see Moderation of the posts that are causing the locking rather than a hard stop being brought to the topic. I do however, appreciate the time taken (even without the multiple attempts to get a response through) to clarify and educate.
