Hey Guys, Im looking for a t5 for my 67. I found one for sale, but I want to be sure I get one with a good ratio to match my rear end. I honestly know nothing about transmission ratios. My rear end has 3.73 gears in it, and the t5 i found is a wc1352-162, which has a 3.97 first gear, 2.34 second, 1.48 third, 1.00 fourth, and .79 fifth. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what I should look for. My car has a mildly built 302, and I do like to have some "fun" in it, but its not a drag car either. Thanks in advance, Jp
With 3.73 the 3.97 first gear would be way to short for a street car. I think that 3.97 gear is for a 4 cylinder Mustang. Most V8 Mustangs came with 3.35 First gear and 2.73 rear end gear. Lot's of guys love 3.35 / 3.55 combo. If you keep your rear at 3.73, then either the 3.35 or 2.95 gear would be good. 2.95 being my preference.

Was a coupe, now sports a fastback roof. First run 13.3 @ 107, looking for 12's...
that T5 is from a 2.3 turbo and probably will not hold up to a a 5.0 engine. It will only handle 240 foot lbs of torque. I also dont think it is a World Class T5 which has stronger gears and bearings in it.

I have 3.89 gears with a T5Z with 2.95 first gear. IMO it is not too much gear especially if you do a lot of stop and go driving.

That T5 is not a good idea. As the others have mentioned, stick with the 3.35 first gear (not too bad on the street) or better, find the 2.95 first gear (not as plentiful).

+1 on what others have said about that particular T-5 (#162). Here's a nice calculator that can help you determine RPM w/ various transmission, read-end gear, and tire combinations.
Unless I am mistaken, the 2.95 first gear ratio is only in the T5z's. I too have that tranny with 3.89 and love it. I am sure that 3.73 would rock too. I am also sure I would not like the 3.35 first gear ratio. The 2.95 seems tall enough. You won't like this but I recommend buying a new T5z.
