Default Left Blinker Works; Right Doesn't - Why?

1966 - There is a lot of slop in my directional signal and, as the Subject says, left works and right doesn't. It did work yesterday when I previously had to hold it in place for it to work. I have seen the plastic directional assembly when I installed an aftermarket wheel. It has quite a few wires attached, so I am wondering how to replace this. Hopefully I will see something out of place when I take the wheel off. Any suggestions?

Thanks

The wires from the turnsignal come out the bottom of the steering wheel housing. There are two connectors, one with two wires, one with multiple wires. The connector with two wires are going to the rear turn signal lights and only there. Disconnect the connector and put a volt meter between one of the wires at a time and ground. When the turn signal is indicated, you can see the fluctuation on the volt meter. This will give you a high degree of confidence if the problem is in the turn signal assembly, or somewhere between the assembly and your rear lights. If your left shows fluctuation and your right doesn't at this connector, then chances are your turnsignal assembly needs replacing. Replacing the plastic turnsignal assembly is an hour or two job, pulling the wires back through the tube can be the difficult part.

Hey Pekoe,

I just replaced my turn signal switch and like GT350R Klone says, getting the wire loom down the steering wheel column is the toughest bit and comprises about 90% of the work/time involved.

I found the video here to be of great help: How To Install a Mustang Turn Signal Switch : Average Joe Restoration
