73 Mach 1 power steering
Hello Everyone, hope this finds you all well.
So I have a 73 Mach 1 with original power steering still. I have constantly run the gamut with power steering leaks etc... replaced all lines and the pump probably 3 times over the last 10 years or so. Nonetheless I recently replaced the entire front end suspension etc... shelby drop, upper and lower CAs, etc.. etc..
I am now wrapping it up, but while I am at I figured it is best to go ahead and attack this power steering deal....I have not replaced the steering box, ever, thus it is the original as I am the original owner. As I also have headers on the car, I would like to take care of two things at once here....
1) Can I replace the steering box with a "smaller" one so I can avoid the off and on tapping of the headers against the steering box? Or is there a drop bracket for the 73? I have only seen the drop brackets up to 70.
2) I would also like the new box to be quick steering. Unfortunately I have yet to find anyone carrying a 16:1 or so ratio or any other "upgraded/advanced" steering boxes for the 73, again they seem to stop at 70. (Looked at CJ Pony parts, Mustangs Plus, etc...
Any thoughts/options? As opposed to rebuilding, I would rather replace with an upgraded option as the rest of the front end has been "updated/upgraded".
