Default Removal of chrome trim on rain gutter

The 66 mustang that I bought to restore has the original chrome on the window drip rails. The chrome pieces are in excellent shape and buffed out very nice in some test areas. I need to remove them to fix some surface rust on the roof/drip rail area. How do I remove them without damaging them?

Believe it or not, grab your "church key"... LOL

An old metal bottle opener, with the end wrapped in tape is the best/easiest way I've found to remove the drip rail moldings. Simply hook the end on the inner edge of molding at one end (I usually start at the rear of the molding) and carefully/gently twist the molding upwards and off the drip rail.

Once you get it started just move down an inch or two and repeat, working your way along the molding.

They're even more fun to reinstall! :p

+1 masking tape works best (for me). PVC tape is too slippery and glue to slimy - doesn't stay on well.

A work in progress. Hopefully done next year.
