Just wanted to thank you for doing this write up. I'm getting ready to do this shortly. Got my AAW kit in house right now, both crimpers are being shipped, and I just sent an email to fuzzy letters. The dash on my car is a rats nest.... I'm trying to add in an EFI harness at the same time, so I figured it was best to do the rewire all in one shot.

Sure thing! You won't regret the upgrade! I have not had a wiring problem since I installed the kit. Please don't hesitate to ask questions, I can try and help you out along the way if need be.

In the middle of my re-wire. What did you do with the wiper switch. the harness did not come with one. did you just use the old plug and harness?

I actually reused the old wiper switch and bought a new wiper harness. See page 15 about 3/4 of the way down for the connections. Let me know if you have any questions!

With you having been through this already you know what it takes to get it in the car.

I need some good winter projects as my time in the garage will be over because of the cold weather here soon.

Can I take this kit and my factory wiring harness and pre wire the AAW kit in my living room to match the factory harness to length etc on the cold winter nights??

For instance, can I do the front headlight harness and match it to length the factory front and do the same with the back harness?

Plus do the same with some of the other smaller circuits such as engine wiring etc.
Thanks,
Lynn

It could be possible, BUT I would not recommend it. If I had done 10 of these and could give you a definite yes, I would. One reason being is my experience with a couple if the AAW wires being nearly exact from the factory. You need to take into account the placement if the fuse panel too...changes the length of the wires. I would just hate to see you cut them and then be short and have to solder the wires back together.

I know im asking a question that should not be asked, but.... here goes.

Anyone able to find a set of crimpers that would work in lieu of dropping $200 (1/3 the cost of the kit itself). I just about dropped all my allowance on this all important wiring for piece of mind (I was driving down the road @ night and clicked over the brights and the lights died. Could not track the issue down. Piece of mind!!) Any thoughts!!

Someone was asking about this earlier. I'm sure it can be done but those crimpers they tell you to use work flawlessly and the last thing you want is to have connections come loose down the road. AAW rents them for $25 a piece though. Look on their website for tool rental.

I'm sure it might have gone a bit easier but..........myself and a friend (who is a certified auto mechanic and a design engineer AND a newely licenced Millwright) done our AAW wire kit on the '68 last summer with just standard wire crimpers. We put over 1500 miles on the new wiring and have had zero issues since the install. At no point did he mention that he needed something different--mind you , he is a pro but still..... just my personal experiences. HTH's. Having said all that, if they stil rent them cheap AND, you don't have good crimpers then, that might be the best way to go.

Later,

Do any wires go down into the left rear inner quarter well to the trunk drop off where the trunk filler panel goes?
I'm installing a new trunk filler panel and I want to know if it will have to come back out when I go to rewire the back end.
THX.

Backup Lights, you should be able to see a hole from the underside. Right near the Leaf Spring Shackle.

In a way I am sad to say this but at the same time happy I decided on paying to have someone finish this job. The car has been sitting for over a year now and all I have done is wire the engine. At this point I know I don't have the motivation to finish so time to face reality. I just talked to Rich at Mustangs to Fear (http://www.mustangstofear.com/index.php) and I am going to let them finish the job. At least I know it will be done right and I will finally be able to drive my car after way to long letting it sit, I am not getting any younger. Now I need to sell the AAW crimp tools I bought for 200 dollars. I don't think I would use them again if I kept them.

67 68 wiper switch is not reproduced yet. you will need to re-use your old one or find one on ebay.

badcruz. I feel your pain. the wiring is my least favorite thing to do as well. it is a major ordeal to do but in the end the nice thing is you know your wiring for any future issues. it is really not as difficult as you might think, just very very time consuming. it is like eating an elephant. either you do it one bite at a time, or invite a bunch of friends and have a party. you chose the latter and in the end it will get done and you will be able to drive the car again. as far as the tools. I find they are the best crimping tools I have ever used. I still use mine whenever I need to crimp connectors. (they work just as good for regular connectors with the plastic cover as they do for the AAW connectors.)

anyway good luck.

I am thinking about tearing my 65 apart and redoing the wiring as I am having more issues with it again. but I am dreading the thought of tearing the whole thing apart again.
