Run! It would cost you more to have one have those T5s rebuilt than it would to buy a new one.
Unless you're already very familiar with rebuilding these transmissions and could do it all yourself, buy a new one.
The example posted above by Asm109 would be fine. But such examples are pretty hard to come by these days. Pretty much any used T5 pulled from a car will have over 250,000 miles on it.
Consider a whole lot of T5 transmissions were bolted behind the 5.0 V8 engines. And those were very durable engines. My next door neighbor drives an 80's era Capri with a 5.0 and a T5. That car has almost 300,000 miles on the original engine! Sure, it leaks oil and burns some too. But, by golly it still runs pretty well! Apparently, everyone who owned that car changed the oil religiously.
I have a '92 World class T5 which came out of my ex- Mustang. It shifts perfectly but has always had a whine in 1,2,3rd gears. I'm told most of them do. 4th and 5th are dead quiet. It has about 110K miles on it. I dont have the bell housing ;just the trans.and a B&M ripper shifter.
The person is asking 125$+ shipping.

I paid $75 for one with a "blown third gear". I haven't done anything with it yet, but I figured it was worth a $75 gamble to see if I could do a rebuild on it, replace that gear and see if it works.

this one would be about $200 shipped. Or should I just keep trying to look for one local?

8 or 10 years ago I bought one from a wrecking yard but didn't install it for more than 6mo. BAD mistake! By the time I bought a T-5 rebuild kit and 2nd gear I was out over $800. This was back when new ones could be had for $1050.
