One of the maintenance guys at work comes into my office to put up some blinds for me and he sees my Mustang restoration books and we start talking. He just so happens to mention that he owns a '70 Boss 429.
Ummmm, excuse me? Turns out he also has a '69 Mach 1 and some other toys, but he bought the Boss many years ago and it sits in his garage "as an investment." Some guys have all the luck.
All I know about the car is he said it's been repainted once, but only 20-something original miles, original motor but rebuilt and I think he said KK2465.
I told him if he shows me his I'll show him mine.... Hopefully in the spring I can get him to bring the car out and get some pics. Just thought I'd share.
Yeah.... I'd say pics or it didn't happen.
I don't mean to sound like a pessimist, but when people find out how into these cars I am, all the sudden they have/had one just like mine, but it was purple and had a hemi, and was a Shelby.
Not to be flip, but you'll rarely see a BOSS 429 with more than 20-something miles. They were maintenance pigs, impractical to drive and hard to maintain. The street version wasn't even all that fast. Awesome when modified, but in stock form the 428 CJ and BOSS 351 would take it.

They were not quick but are very fast. I have a cousin with a 69 torino super cobra jet. from a good rolling start that thing is fast 120 comes fast. just saying.
Either way, fast or not, a real boss 9 in descent shape is truly a sight to see. I have seen one at a car show. Something about it is real special. I could even tell it was special not knowing exactly what it was.
Yall guys are missing the point. The man has a Boss 429. Thats just awesome. As far as I am concerned that is the holy grail of the hobby, well that and the shelbys.

+1. my landlord had 2 b429 mustangs. he still has one and an extra engine. he said they wernt that fast of the lot. he also worked for ford. ford had to sell 500 cars with the b429 in them to the public so they could run it in nascar. after 2 years it was dropped due to all the nascar b.s. the street engine was a detuned pig. a 428 or 351 4v would smoke them.
Ford had a great idea with the B429 and it was great on the race track, but they detuned it too much for the street. They undercarbed it, under cammed it. Insufficient mixture velocity at lower RPMs, and then when you revved it it tended to run out of cam and carb. Magazine testers of the day all knew it had gobs of unlocked potential, but as delivered from Ford, well.... At least it served Ford's purpose, it homologated their engines. Those funny "0" ringed dry deck seals were a source of "amusement" during warranty visits to the Ford service departments, too.

2nd pic is of me and the same Mustang - May '67, with original F70-14 Wide Ovals.
Personally not into big blocks but if I could get back my 1968 gt 390 not an (a) but a four speed car non fastback notch coupe I'd sell everything minus 1.
I will say every time someone see's one of my cars, either they or someone they know has had one of each of the holy grails. The latest was the guy pumping my septic tank. His list was B9, 69 Mach 1 428, 65 K Fastback. He knew the terms. I don't expect people to keep pics of their rides in their wallets, but tall stories are more common than not. I take it with a grain of salt. After all, they are just trying to be social and engage in your interests, and isn't that the fabric of society?

I agree with Schoor and Lexalot...
You mention these old cars and the stories start...
I like the banter, it makes the hobby interesting.
