Default TKO Options, Liberty Gears? Who has one?

I hear the TKO-500/600 have high RPM shifting problems. Liberty Gears make a modified TKO to make the trans shift better. Who has one, and how do you like it? Thanks ya'll!

I ran my TKO for two years and hated it. Would not go into third over 5200, and very notch_y shifting. There is historically sketchy quality, materials and design flaws in a stock TKO. Yanked it and had Liberties gear do their magic. It shifts like a charm. I recommend buying the TKO upgraded package from Liberties right from the get go. Alan

Did you send them the transmission or just the parts? How much do they charge?

An upgraded liberty tremec is only $300 more than a stock tremec. Knowing that, there is no reason to buy a new stock one.

Also, another option is by Mark Luton at MMR. They do an upgrade to TKO's that I've used before to go 9.99 in a modular power, high rpm car. Worked great and Mark is a good guy to deal with. He typically offers TKO's at a better price than anyone I've seen and his upgrades are a little bit better priced than LIberty.

FWIW....... MMR built us a custom engine for our race car and do to some miscommunication it wasn't exactly what we needed. Mark took it back no questions asked and credited us, even paid return shipping.

I has a box made and sent him my whole TKO. It was $694.54 for the standard upgrade for a synchronized TKO for street / strip use. It included and return shipping from MI to OR. I can shift no problem well in to the 6000- 6500 range, Worth every penny. They do allot of changes, call them and they will explain it.

My 3550 shifts like a dream even at 6250rpm's. You need to follow the recommended break in procedure or you will never get the desired shift quality. Every person I've ever known has installed one of these trannies and goes straight to the track and blasts WOT through the gears paying no heed to the 500 mile break in, then complains about the shift quality. Not 500 highway miles either. City miles of upshifting and downshifting. After 350-400 miles of driving I started noticing how much easier my 3550 was to shift through the gears, and by 500+ miles it was a pleasure to drive. Just like the instructions said.

My TKO was set up to spec and was broken in correctly. I did allot of research before I sent mine to Liberties. It had the well known lock out problem and poor shift quality. I guess you were one of the very lucky ones.
