Default T5 Clutch Cable Routing

How twisted up is your clutch cable?

To keep mine away from my Hooker SuperComp headers. I am attached to the bell housing, turning 90 degrees running around the gear box, up the back/far divers side of the shock tower, looping into a U towards the front of the car and back to mount on the firewall. I do not have the clutch pedal mounted yet.....I just wanted some opinions if this is too much.

FYI, my Dad bought the headers without asking me my plans, so I have to keep the headers and I have the Mustang Steve power booster for my 4 wheel disc brakes so I cannot use the Daze Cars setup (no room for clutch cylinder).

I'm using the Mustang Steve clutch kit.

Newbie gets no love?

I re-routed the cable in one long sweeping bend under the oil filter & between the engine mount. I'm gonna need a bracket to tie the cable to the crossmember or frame to keep the cable away from the headers near the T5 bell housing cable mounting tab.

I'm using a stock 86 T5 rebuilt, stock fox cable w/ mustang steve kit, stock auto zone clutch/pressure plate and its a very stiff clutch pedal. Any thoughts?

I have the Mustang Steve conversion also , I'm using the 96 and up clutch cable with no mods , wish I had a pic handy but I also have a long sweep down by the oil filter , the thru the motor mount. There is just one 2" section of cable that is very close to header near trans mount point, I have it wrapped in heat wrap. This routing made a big difference in clutch operation for me , I use a King Cobra clutch , before after about a 1/2 of driving I could feel the cable start to heat up and the nylon inner core start to melt , I feel good about the current set up

How long is the 96 and up clutch cable? My new one was 62" and I still had to route it between the cowl and the fender well. It feels all right but I know it won't last and these things are a PITA to replace.

I don't have any details on mine but I know that I have the Mustang Steve stup and the stock cable he sent with it wasn't long enough without kinking up or forcing me to mount it next to the header. I called back and he sent me a longer and semi-adjustable one that i was able to route underneath the engine and attach to a clip I attached to one of the oil pan bolts. it was tough to get the bolt back in the oil pan but I did it with some persuasion. Hope this helps

Thanks Jacob, From his website it looks like the new cable is 72" which would allow for better routing. Much better option in my opinion. Does anyone know the application?

Do what you have to do routing the cable to protect it from the headers. In my experience I had to ditch the super comps in the end, they just weren't going to be a long term solution.

Just got done installing Mustang Steve's updated, longer clutch cable. What a huge difference! It is as light as the hydraulic clutch in my kid's Ranger. Before even with a new cable it was so twisted there was still too much friction and it was too close to the headers. With the routing the way it is now I can't see ever having to change it again.

Oh and I learned these are easier to change with the dash out of the car...
Highly recommended.
