Default 1970 Mustang Mach I I need new vented cap

I have a 1970 Mustang with evaportive emissions equipment in the trunk. My fuel filter is getting rust in it so I need a new tank. Since they don't make the tank to re install the evap equipment, I was going to leave it in the trunk and get a new non evap tank. Can anyone direct me to where I can find a 1970 Mach I vented gas cap? Or can I modify my original?

Thanks in advance!

You shouldn't have an issue locating the cap, as most caps available should be vented. The bigger issue is that you will need to change your filler neck, as the evaporative system uses a different style.......

FYI, I just bought the "premium" tank from Mustangs Unlimited. It's a very nice part; good construction, has a drain, made in Canada. If you get the kit, it comes with a fuel float and some other stuff.

Well thanks for the info I did not realize I needed a neck also. You certainly saved me some time and frustration.

unfortunalty you cant boil those tanks. but you can have it flushed out, any pin holes repaired, and red leaded

you should get another 20 yrs out of it. I did mine in 91 and so far so good but it is past its usuful life and id liek to replace it.

every now and then one pops up on ebay for $200 but youll never know what theyre sending you. yours may end up being in better shape

if you want to vent your cap you can just drill a little 1/16 hole in the inside base and leave it as is.

Well too bad I missed your point. I just go the new tank and the 70 San Jose neck does not fit on the new Canada tanks. So I am going through NPD so I need a new fuel filler neck, and Hose fuel tank to filler pipe. I suppose I then need a new repo gas cap because the old one will not work? Will I need any other parts? Or any other info?
