So if the horn in the early 65s are triggered with a single contact, that seems a bit like the old GM style, so why couldn't you use a moto-lita style wheel and hub with a single contact setup like this?
Ah, see, now I have an even worse problem. My Grandad had a 65 coupe, Prarie Bronze with Palomino interior. Out-frikkin'-standing car. Didn't hurt that it was also a K code. Your black-on-black will be boring, hard to keep clean, and roasting hot in any kind of warm weather. Consider adding air conditioning, or your wife will refuse to ride in it a second time.
Heck, even black with a clean new Palomino interior would look pretty good.
If I had a K code I'd be more concerned with keeping the original colors.
I can see now that I'll never hear the end "the Palomino issue" (as I will refer to it from now on) from you. Are you one of them grumpy old men that are always telling people how it was when they were young?
I do plan on taking your advice regarding the a/c though. I have the factory under dash unit but am missing the under hood parts. I'll have to bear the heat this summer and work on it in the winter (due to time and $).

That wheel looks nice. I don't see how it attaches to the steering column though. Does the hub bolt directly to the steering column like the original wheel? It also says the horn won't work without modification on a Ford column. Any idea how much "modifying" it would take? If it's not to bad, I may buy it.

The hub/wheel bolts on just like the old wheel....big old nut in the middle then the horn button pops it.
I installed this wheel and hub on my 65.
It is also better/nicer/more reliable of a horn setup than the grant style with a semi cardboard disc a horn button tries to grab onto
I have not hooked up the horn yet, but I have 2 contacts in my column which is what requires modification to convert it to a single trigger setup. You have 1, so it is a technical question I posed. If a single contact hub like this would work almost as a bolt and go for you because I don't know enough about the old setup to answer.
I just sent the seller of the hub a message asking about fitting on my car. I'll wait for hopefully good news. If so, there may be 2 65's with the same wheel in Cecil County - I'm not sure if the county is big enough for that!
btw, are those the bullet seats you mentioned in another thread? nvm - I just saw the other thread with the pics.

One thing on 64.5 Mustangs, they are the original Mustang and there aren't that many of them left. I have one. Although I have made minor modifications to my 64.5 D Code, it appears factory and matches the data plate. The changes I made, modified the internals of the engine to produce more power, installed a beefier anti sway bar, and added factory power steering, and plan to make, T5 transmission, (originally a 4 speed), Shelby drop, vintage style wheel upgrade, import brace, sub frame connectors, and maybe a factory type front disc brake upgrade. I'm keeping it looking stock just because it is original and the changes I'm making are mostly bolt on and don't detract from the original style. I think keeping the car original and keeping (storing) the parts I swapped out, will increase it's value over modifying the car. Now if I had a 65/66 hard top, of which there are a lot of, mod away, unless, it's a rare factory production combination. My opinion.
I found a 65 convertible for my wife I got for a song, that has no data plate. It's a 200 six banger which I will keep in it. The car was originally Vintage Burgundy in color. This was a earlier restoration, but the paint job is not good, a back yard Rangoon red. I plan on removing the interior and replacing it with a two tone blue/white pony combo, painting the car a light blue. and possibly install a bench seat that I have if I can get the seat covers for it. Right now the interior is standard black and it is hot to ride in with the top down in Florida. When I get done I'm buying a repro data plate to reflect what the car has in it.
Just to clarify, I'm just having some good natured fun with the back and forth comments in this thread. I hope everyone realizes that and has a sense of humor. Obvously everyone is entitled to their opinion and I have respect for others point of view and am glad they are sharing their skill/expertise with those of us with less of it.
That being said, I am going ahead with the black/red interior - It's what I want and I think it will look nice. I'll post some pics when it's done and hopefully othres will like it too. If not, that's ok too.

Not to get off subject, but it is your post. I definitively have a sense of humor. When I went to Afghanistan for a year in 2008 one of the things on my packing list was, "A sense of humor." When i got there I started to get complaints about my sense of humor. My response was, that I was told the bring a sense of humor, it didn't say it no warped senses of humor.

That's the early, generator style wheel and switch. Just get the Moto-Lita boss (hub) that's correct for your car.

Good move. When you get door sills, get them from Glazier/Nolan, no one else offers the 64 sills. If your plastic arm rest bases are original 64's, save them as if they were the crown jewels. These are unique, and never serviced, even by Ford. Almost impossible to find today. Well worth having rechromed.
