Hello, Everyone.
I'm embarking on a small restoration project; I have a '66 Mustange Coupe I'm planning to restore & modify slightly. The body's in pretty good nick, it needs a coat of paint, the interior needs some attention... but the big one is the engine: It doesn't have one.
I plan on replacing the inline 6 that was in it; the original's gone, so that's a headache. I don't plan to try to turn it into a race car; it can't corner that well anyway.
I'm an inveterate DIYer, but don't have much experience working with American cars; this'll be a learning experience. Hopefully I'll benefit from the collective wisdom here; this forum was recommended by a coworker.
And for the "Pics Or Ban" crowd and to avoid these guys
Welcome to the vmf! You will have a blast with your project while cursing at it while you bust a knuckle or two.

Welcome to VMF. Since it appears you don't have a transmission either you may want to consider either an automatic overdrive (AOD) for an automatic or a T5 for a manual. I don't know what your setup is but it shouldn't be difficult. The 200 CID that goes with your car is a great engine. Without an engine you have the opportunity to do all that cleaning and detailing stuff and suspension mods, without an engine in the way while you're working. The good thing is you'll get a world or knowledge from the folks on this forum.
Welcome to VMF, lots of great information here. I don't really work on mine, I just buy parts and stack the boxes real pretty. Have fun, can't wait to see the progress as another is brought back to glory.
Did someone say 2.3 turbo? Oh wait, this isn't the Mod and Custom forum...
Sorry to hijack this thread but your coupe is killer! Any place on the net I can see more pics?
Welcome to the site Stig, I also have a 66 coupe I'm working on so I'm sure we'll cross paths here! Good luck with yours! I'm just up the road in Parker so maybe I'll catch you around locally!

I actually do still have the original transmission, a 5-ounce 3spd. Automatics in my book are (I dislike automatics so much, I swapped out the automatic transmission in my 2000 3 Series for a 6-speed manual).
I would be interested in hearing what sort of things you guys think would be beneficial (you mentioned suspension mods for instance). I had planned to start with the engine, but I don't really have a plan of attack fully formulated just yet.

There are a few upgrade that you can make that will make the car feel the road more by stiffening up the front end and reduce the lean in curves. a larger anti sway bar in the front, and export brace and a Monte Carlo bar. Then there is the "Shelby"/Arning drop where you re-position the upper control arm. It changes the steering geometry for the better. Do a search in the forum, you'll find loads of information.
Since you're already set up for a manual tranny, putting a T5 would be a simple swap and improve the already good mpg that the 200 gives.
My '64 1/2 vert. Ordered May '64. D code 4 speed, handling package, caspian blue, accent group, Ford blue manual top.
'68 vert. driver. Owned since '77. C code AT, AC, PS, P disc B, PT lime gold, standard black interior and top. NOS RF fender and left quarter.New top and folding glass.
