For some time now I've been knowing that I wan't able to get all from the '66 GT-350 that it had to give. Arthritis from ancient motorcycle injuries and slowed reflexes made it evident. That bothered me, maybe more than it should've. But nonetheless I know that my enthusiasm for ownership would suffer if all I could do was enjoy 99% of the Shelby driving experience when I had known years of the full 100%.
Luckily, I met a fine young man who was willing (and able) to carry 6s1117 on to new adventures. Someone who had the same expectations of the Shelby experience that I did over a decade ago. That spirit was evident when he told me he wanted to drive the car from Austin to LA, and "would the car make it"? I encouraged him to plan the trip. Privately I wondered if I would have even made the deal with him if he had wanted to trailer it the west coast. Some cars should be trailered I suppose, but this car is a driver, and I hope it always will be.
Thanks to all on the forum who have helped me these last 14 years with my various Shelby, K-code, & Mustang questions and problems. I couldn't have made it on my own.
here is a thread on one the Porsche forums of the new owners trip back to LA.
I hope you don't leave us just because the 'Stang is gone! You've been around too long to do that. And congrats selling the car.
Stan

I'll be here until "they" pry my cold dead fingers off the computer. Seriously, I'm looking for another Ford (or two), just haven't decided what. I do know it will have been made some time between 1955 & 1967.

I'm going to buying a couple of cars, all I've narrowed it down to is they will be Fords made between 1955 and 1967. Everybody on the forum knows every car has it's own personality, and 6s1117 was no exception. It demanded to be driven hard and often. And let me know when it didn't "get enough". I'm looking for a car or two that won't whip me so hard. Could be another Shelby, a Mustang, '63 Galaxie, or a T-Bird. Or any two of those. Will keep everyone posted and likely be asking for plenty of advice
I feel sad with you.... My all time dream car would be a '67 GT 350, and if I ever get one, I'll keep it till I die, and have my will planned out for who it would go to(no, I won't bury myself in it, that would be too selfish).

my only heirs are two daughters. They would love to have had the GT-350. But neither one could've drive it like it needs to be driven. So they won't be having a '66 GT-350 to fight over.
You've GOT to be kidding me. I would've never thought you would part with your shelby. I understand your reasons, as much as I know why I had to sell mine, but it's sad nonetheless. I hope you can find the cars (or cars) you're looking for and get the same enjoyment out of them that you did your old car. I'm glad to know you'll still be with us here.

like I said, I'd rather not have it if I can't drive it like I use to be able to do. Just my way of living and certainly not right for everyone.
You need a nice 65/66 fastback with power steering, power disc brakes and an automatic. A nice cruising car. I only say that because 65/66 are my favorite

Wow, sad to see it go! Glad to see that you'll be hanging around though - you're a wealth of knowledge. I admire your take on the situation and hope that when the time comes for me I'll be smart enough to do what you did and pass the reins on... bravo.

Three years of work for three days of perfection. This pony WILL get back out on the road and it WILL reliably take me where I want to go... and it will always, always keep me safe.
Gosh. Read both threads and really enjoyed the read. Wish I had the balls to spend 100 plus on a car I would use and not just show. My cars over here get covered in dirt and crap from the farms all around. Thanks for the great thread. Peter

It's hard to part with stuff. I built this car for my Dad, as his retirement fun car. He kept it about eight years, until Parkinson's made it impossible for him to drive it. Bothered him to see it just sitting there in the garage. Sold it to the manager of the local Ford dealer. Stone stock, except for some upgrades to the 390GT.

Well, I'd like to thank you for inspiring me to paint my GT project Candy Apple Red and going with Magnum 500 wheels! You sig photo is what did it for me.
Is the new owner going to join up here?
FWIW, you could have donated to me and I would have gladly drove it everywhere! But then again, if the wife knew I had a car worth 6 figures in the garage, she would have sold it to pay off debts and but a beach condo. I guess you did the right thing...
