guys i have a question for you all. The car is running (I tried uploading a video on her, but cannot). My question is, should I just pressure wash and clean the engine bay, buff out the car, just a good cleaning and checking of everything, then put it on the road; or should I pull the motor out to give the engine bay a full detail, then look to paint the car? I would like to keep it as much original as possible, and I feel with a full engine detail and all original outside, it will look silly. What are your thoughts? Thanks

Change all the fluids, grease everything, buff it out and power wash the engin bay. Then drive it some and enjoy it. Thats my vote. Maybe change the oil again in 300 miles.

+1, although I'd probably skip the power wash- I'd hate to see you blow off any original paint, decals, tags, etc. Lots of rags, a nylon brush, and elbow grease should do the job. I'd think long and hard before doing any paint beyond small touch-up stuff.

That's true...

To make the car "nice" you might have about 20,000 into it. You should be at or about the break even point. If you are looking to make big money on the car, then you might be let down. Look for all the big buck stuff like carb, dizzy and rev limiter.
What does it cost to paint a car? new wheels, tires, clutch, engine rebuild? do you have the time and know how to do all the work OR will you have to pay someone?
Look at the car again and make a list of everything that need replaced and then look at a parts catalog and see how much it will take to complete ( then add 20%) and you should be close to the dollar amount.
You have to remember if there is mice under the hood then there were mice in the interior. Check all the wiring as you don't want to burn up the car or your garage down.
Good luck and I hope it can work out for you.

Just enjoy it. Dont be in a rush to tear it apart. Just drive it for a year then decide what you want to do. At that point you will be better able to make the decision on what you want to do with it

If I had a nickel for all the projects I have rushed into and bailed on....I'd have a lot of nickels

Once you start improving one area then the next previously good looking area looks shabby. Many a car has been torn to bits and not driven for ages for just that very reason

Enjoy. Peter

I agree, just get it road worthy and enjoy it. Over time you will figure out what you want it to ultimately be for you.

Just read this thread and its a fantastic story.

I would get it safe for the road and drive as is - it's very "fashionable" in England to be able to get patina such as this.

I believe what I will do for now is begin one section at a time. I noticed there are a few mice holes in the headliner and it seems like the rear glass will have to be removed in order to install a new one. The carpet is original and not too bad but the cushoin underliner I am sure will reak of the mice urine. I have a new carpet and liner set, but will see how the original carpet cleans up. I have a video of the car running if anyone could give me tips on how to upload it on here. Thx
