I only have a few weeks left before i put the car up for the winter and start fixing a lot of issues this winter so i will check out the lights for now and then later install the relay as well. From what i have read the relay seems like the logicla way to go for a long term solution IMHO

I'll also suggest using headlight relays. I got mine from RJM Injection Tech, but you can also do this and make your own.

Guys , going to be starting work on my car soon and this has not been corrected. If i pull the lights on , after a bout 15 minutes they will shut off and then come back on for a few seconds and then go back off etc.. I have replaced the switch and the dimmer and it has not made any difference. What would be your best guess as to the culprit.
The car is a 70 mach 1 and has halogen bulbs and the wires i have been seeing still look pretty decent and not too brittle .I will be taking out the dash and interior to address other issues so i'll check them out and be back on the forum I am sure.
Thanks
Terry

Sounds like a grounding issue? OR Maybe you have an exposed wire in the headlight harness touching another wire or touching the metal of the car. Something to check out.

Have you added the relay kit suggested earlier?
Those halogen bulbs are pulling too many amps thru the headlight switch.

I dont think halogens pull many more amps than selaed beams. Regardless, relays would probably fix it. But check your headlight extension pigtails. Those do get some heat coming off the bulb.Mine were pretty stiff but seem to be working. I would check both pigtails for resistance and follow the wires and look for an area or section of headlamp wire that has got hot.

I have not added the relays yet.I was looking to see if you guys though that was my issue.I will do that as well as check my lights.I hope to get started on my project within a couple weeks so i will check it out.By pigtails do you mean the plastic female connnectors that go on the back of the light.
I thing I will be going trough a section of the harness at a time to see if i have any wire issues.I would be surprised if i did not find something broken or jammed.
I want to clean up a bunch of stuff while at it.
