Default A/T Shift Lock Pawl - 1966 - Need One.

After almost 200,000 miles and 46 years the shift lock pawl failed. NPD shows it as a PN 7C442-1, but they say it is out of stock. Scott Drake does not make a replacement. Any ideas where I can get one would be appreciated. It looks like it may be possible to reweld the pawl to the little cylinder, but the original weld looks almost like copper. It is an extremely small weld bead if that is what it was.

Just pull one out of a rusty, used lever.

I would if I had a rusty used lever; but if I do, I can't find it.

I discovered this place (locally) when I needed a replacement reverse band strut for my C4:

Rebuilt Transmissions Transmission Parts

They have a fairly large selection of used parts. Good prices.

Talked to NPD today and they do not expect to restock the part. I am going to have a local welder repair it. Should be much stronger than the original which looks like the pawl was oven brazed to the cylinder. If it lasts another 50 years and 200,000 miles, I will be pleased.

I answered your email to NPD Gas Pumps. As I said in the email, it's not a matter of "re-stocking", it's a matter that the part is now a dinosaur, obsoleted/discontinued by Ford.

Did you not get the list of obsolete parts dealers I pasted at the bottom of the email showing that they had C5ZZ-7C442-A in-stock?? If not, I'll happily pop it up here on VMF...

I did not receive the reply. I have done several searches and cannot find it. Would appreciate the list in case the repair does not work. Your website said "Out of Stock", so I thought that it might have been a reproduced part. It looks like the original oven brazing job was not done properly and still lasted this long. I appreciate the information and the help.

Gas Pumps, simply go to this website Welcome to the part locator . Choose "Ford" as your manufacturer, enter the part # into the first available field with NO DASHES (i.e. C5ZZ7C442A), put in your zip code, and click "search".

This will get you there, and is a powerful way to find anything else NOS you may be seeking in the future...

Thanks all for the advice. The weld repair looks like it works and should last another 50 years or longer. Problem solved. I appreciate your help.
