Confused Master cylinder question......

I'm having to fill up the front of the MC about twice a week. I had all the ( drum ) cyls. done when the car was in the restortion shop so I guess they missed the MC. I can get a rebuilt one from NPD. My question is....since labor rates differ around the country, how many hours would it take to put in another one ? Then I can figure out a ballpark cost. Thanks, Joe

If you are having to add fluid, where is it going can you see a leak? is the master cyllinder leaking? If it is. I would think you could change it in about an hour, then you have to bleed the lines. Good luck.

If you are adding that much, You have a leak. If at master, you will see it on the firewall,or below the cylinder, also look inside under the padding of the carpet on the floor,if you see no sign or feel nothing,it will be at the wheels. To replace the master, just remove the lines, unbolt from the booster, reinstall newone, add fluid, have a friend pump pedal to remove air, many times, hold pedal down after air is gone, replace lines. release pedal, then rebleed the brake lines. If you are NOT sure on this, GO HAVE IT NONE AT THE AUTO SHOP. DONT PLAY WITH BRAKES!

Flat rate would be 1.5 hours to replace and bleed.

Don't forget to bench bleed the new MC before you put it on the car.

I would have that system rechecked front to back.. You could have a leak in a line someplace as well.

+1. Does it leak if it just sits, or only if you pump it? Any loss of fluid is a potential big problem
