Default Where to go OEM parts online

Hey guys

Looking for a place to buy original OEM parts online and are reliable shops. To be specific, I'm looking for the original alternator bracket. I'll try a couple shops locally and Ebay, but want to see what you guys know. Just need the lower bracket. 66 Mustang. Thanks.

Ok. So I'm getting pretty frustrated now. I have the right belt size,40.5 inch. I have the right alternator from oreilly. But the belt won't tighten. I just bought a 65 OEM lower alternator bracket and it still has lack of space to tighten the belt. Is a 65 bracket different than a 66? I know the bracket is mounted correctly too. Does anyone have a picture of the alternator setup? My next guess would be the pulley being too small? I took the one I bought off because its a serpentine pulley.

If everything's lining up and you have adjustment why don't you just go get a little shorter belt. Just asking---

I thought about that too. Think I need to be specific on what model car or just ask if they have a 40 inch belt maybe?

If you have a 40.5 inch belt now and you bottomed out on the adjustment you might have to go with a belt about 2'' shorter give or take. And of course that depends on how much slack was in the belt then.

I just went through this on a 65, I can help. Does your 66 289 have ac or power steering? There was also a heavy duty cooling option with different size wp pulley.

I have the dual pulley setup and no ac but power steering.

Also If your a long way from the parts store get a couple different length belts you think may be closer to what you need---keep the receipt and take back the ones you don't need. Might save you some travel time.

Yea I was thinking about that. I decided to go 39.5 but the store didn't have it. So I went with 38.5 and I'm PRETTY SURE that should work. I swear though. This girl who worked at Autozone could not understand what I was talking about. She kept talking about part number and I told her the last 3 numbers on the part number is the size and it almost like she was clueless when I kept asking her what size is it. Almost like I had to draw a picture for her to understand what I was talking about. Couldn't have been more straighter than telling her, "The last 3 numbers represent the size of the belt." haha. This was at Autozone.

It's increasingly more difficult to find a parts person that can actually interpret what parts are for and how part numbers correspond to size of an item or left vs right side, etc.

Vatozone seems to be the worst. Ask them if they are ASE certified parts people, then they'll really give you a strange look.

LOL! No doubt. Hell, I was talking to a hotty at O'reilly and told her my electrical nightmare that's going on. Told her it might be the alternator but thought more of being the ignition switch. She told me straight out before I mentioned the alternator that it sounds like an ignition switch issue if it isn't the solenoid. Damn I was falling in love with her. hahaha Didn't see an ASE patch on her, but she sure knew what she was talking about and what I was thinking too.

I went to O'reillys to buy a simple generic in line fuel filter and they just kept asking me what year and model is it for. I finally had to draw them out a picture of what it looked like then they brought out one that was for a semi truck and the canister on it was about the size of a normal oil filter. I said it looks like that, but much smaller. They finally found one. I was, needless to say, a little frustrated when I was done. I wanted to say just let me go in back and look for one.
