Default Ignition switch and tumbler issue

Hello all, first post here, I have an unusual issue on my hands. I have a 65 coupe and just recently replaced the ignition switch. But when I attempted to put the tumbler back in, it would not go in at all. I have replaced a switch on this same car in the past and feel as if I am doing the same thing as before. The only difference, is I have noticed the key tumbler does not sit as flush with the bezel as I recall it used to.

Has anyone else had a similar problem? Any suggestions? I appreciate any input anyone might have.

The lock cylinder needs to be indexed to the proper indent before it can be inserted in the lock. It's very easy to rotate it out of place when handling it before installation.

Its supposed to be indexed past acc, right?

Are you also inserting a pin/paperclip/earring stud in the small hole you used to remove the tumbler?

In all of the videos/pics I viewed none mentioned I had to do this but after a few days of similar frustration I gave it a shot and it worked.

I just got done switching my switch out. Yes it was a b*** trying to put the cylinder back in, and never had an issue before. Sometimes you need to just play around with it. Look at the end of the cylinder and live it up with the inside of the switch. You'll see the square size goes from big on one end to small. And yes, make sure the hole next to the key hole is on the right side. Make sure you push the cylinder in with the cylinder being in acc location then turn it clock wise. There's a really helpful article in mustang monthly on it. Just google ignition switch and you'll see the article pop up with pictures. Very helpful.
