Default Air cleaner, quick question

I have a 65 I200 with a non original Carter YFA carb. The air cleaner on top is very obviously not the original style. The car runs well (just had carb rebuilt) so I don't want to replace it, but the air cleaner is so glaringly wrong that I want to change it. So my question is; will a stock period correct air cleaner fit my Carter YFA carb. I'm not looking to make it concours, but correct to the casual looker.

Probably not as the choke housing on the Carter is very high and there is not a relief in the bottom of the air cleaner for one. The Autolite 1100 has a very low choke housing.

On the other hand, if you could find a cheap OE air cleaner that needs refinishing, you could graft your existing one and that one together and repaint.

Thank you both for your suggestions.

I'm going to try to fabricate it but I don't know how to weld yet. Someone I work with has the equipment and will help me in exchange for an A/C unit I have. I have some other work that needs to be done, and if we can reach an agreement he will give me some training. This seems like a good project to get started.

Those base plate adapters were a real surprise to me. I never would have thought that it would be available off the shelf.

Yea, me too. I stumbled on it only because I bought a '70 200ci for my '65 coupe and it came with Carter on it. I like their Hat, wish I had a Rat Rod.

It gets better. You can buy the 289HP 14" air cleaner with a base that fits the 1100 carb. No adapter required.
