Default What's it worth - 67 fastback

I’m revisiting a 67 fastback I looked at earlier in the year and wanted input on the value. It’s a C-code car with automatic transmission. It’s fairly well optioned and has both the interior and exterior decor groups. The car also has power steering, power disc brakes, A/C, and AM 8-track stereo.

The paint is decent, although I did find bondo in some of the expected areas with my Filler Detective. The front floors and trunk drop offs have all been repaired, but not expertly. The car was recently inspected.

The car does need a couple of things like the tachometer repaired and the fan motor replaced.

The seller is asking $20K, which I think is high mostly because of the poorly repaired floors and drop offs, and the body filler. I’d like to make him a fair offer, since he’s already indicated he’s not interested in any low ball offers. What do you guys think is reasonable?

My checkbook wouldn't offer anything over $8-10k. Twenty grand would be the price I would expect to pay for a VERY nice driver that needs very, very, little. With the filler issues you're talking about a complete strip and Lord knows what's underneath.

I may have understated the paint quality. The car is straight, and the paint is shiny, with no cracking, checking, flaking, etc. It's an older restoration, and although the Filler Detective found bondo (mostly in the lower quarters) the paint has held up very well and there is no bubbling. I would rate the car a 3+.

+1 My car had a beautiful paint job when I bought it. No runs or orange peel. It had been color sanded and buffed excellently. And it covered all the bondo and crappy rust repair very well. I'm about to replace both my rear quarter panels. And I will be repainting my car after all this.

I'd be tempted to go higher if there were pictures taken during the resto that supported it's general condition "under the fluff". A long time ago I bought a BroncoII that looked FANTASTIC that'd had the rust spots (no holes) sanded, then primed and painted. Took a year, but those nasty bubbles started appearing....ALL over.
