Default How do I remove the emblem from a 67 mustang gas cap?

I am building a super snake tribute car and I want to put the shelby GT500 sticker on my stock gas cap to give it the shelby look. This all looks possible but first I have to safely remove the original pony coral emblem. Does anyone know how to remove one of these emblems without cracking or destroying the cap? I know I can buy a shelby gas cap and many aluminum shelby after market gas caps...I do not want to do this. The original shelby sticker is $20 bucks and would look just as nice if I can install it on my existing gas cap and save me $100 bucks at least. As I am on a very strict budget I just want advice on how to remove the stock emblem. If anyone has done this before or knows how to do it please help me out. Thanks

I haven't tried it but I found two threads in the search engine that mention tapping it off with a piece of wood, both mentioned it is held on with pot metal studs that are flattened from the inside where you can't get to them.

Pop up Gas Cap Emblem removal on a 67(pics included)

The only other way I can see is to drill out the center 'cap' piece on the inside of the cap to get access to the screw and spring.

If you're on a stick budget how are you going to do a Shelby tribute? Some of those body panels are pricey, don't go cheap on a gas cap.
