Just picked up my driver side vent window frame from having it rechromed on tuesday... went to my shop to reassemble this afternoon and found it on the ground... busted... of course none of my three kids or wife had anything to doing with knocking off the middle of a banquet table... RIGHT... (they were original to the car) so now Im stuck with buying new crap from china or finding a driver side vent window that can be rechromed.... anyone got one of those laying around?
Im just sick... waste of 100 dollars, but more importantly, waste of a perfect fitting body part....

I am TOTALLY amazed at the thickness of that part that it broke so easily! I suspect a pre existing condition. Please be nice to your loved ones, like people say......
its only parts man!
That is THE PLACE THEY ALWAYS CRACK and fail when on the car. Slamming the door thousands of times in the past 45 years flexes it there, especially when the window is up.
My guess is, it was already cracked and the heat from chroming made it worse. I wouldn't blame it too hard on the fam. They probably saved you the trouble of it breaking later after installation.
I understand your view on replacement parts, that's why I have a spare parts car. If you really want to keep the original check out the chrome shops like Paul's that do repairs on parts to be chromed. I've seen some nasty stuff restored to show quality. I'm not sure you can get it done for $100 but it's worth checking just in case.
When I disassembled my original drivers door I found mine broke too. Had to buy a set off ebay.
Its a shame they didn't break the passenger side. I have a spare for that side.
