Default 67 hood hinges/closure problem

67 I bought had problem with right rear of hood not closing flush with fender. I could push it down and it would stay but next time I opened it, same problem. Bought new hinges and springs and now left side won't close,same deal. Is this car cursed?

Strange question, is the hood bracing, the part of the hood that faces the engine still attached flush to the hood top?

The reason I ask is when I had the same issue of not closing all the way, I replaced both hinges, springs and hinge but found that the hood bracing separated in several places so the hood actually flexed when I tried to close it preventing me from getting the right leverage to close all the way.

I had to weld the bracing back to the upper hood in several places to get the hood from flexing when I applied pressure which fixed my issue.

Very common problem. It usually can be fixed by re-aligning the hood hinges. This procedure works pretty well:

Have person #1 open the hood and hold it up;
Have person #2 loosen the three hinge to apron bolts on each side just enough to allow movement;
Have Person #1 push the hood wide open (up) while person #2 tightens the bolts.

While you are at it, if the side to side panel gaps are off of the hood to cowl gap is off, loosen the two hinge to hood bolts on each side and re-position the hood front to back and/or side to side to get the gaps right. Occasionally the front fenders need to be slightly adjusted in or out to make it right.

In most cases this will get it close. You may have to fiddle back and forth a bit to get it exactly right.
