$400 for plates on eBay? I got my '64 AZ plates for $27 after checking to make sure they were clear to use. Had no problem registering them, and get lots of comments on the one I have on the car now. The other one is put away for safekeeping

Damn. I live in the "Live Free or Die" State of New Hampshire. We cannot run with era correct plates. I wish we could though...I'm very jealous.

I love the blue plates! But that's what I grew up on.

I have owned the '66 since '67, so it had the original black plates (CA). Lost them when the car was stolen. Had to use then current plates. Now have YOM plates. If I go with the new legacy plates with the original numbers, would that be a better choice or should I stick with the YOM plates that I have? Are the new ones definitely reflective? That would be a factor.

Does anyone know if the legacy plate charaters will be stamped like the originals or painted? If stamped, the plates could be stripped and painted to get rid of the reflectorizing.

When the time comes when I part with my car, my desire is to get it back to CA and into the hands of someone who will properly care for it. I still have the original black plates and have thought that it would be great for the next owner to get the plates back on the car officially through DMV. I am glad to hear that the YOM plates are being accepted for use, but like previously mentioned, I hope my letter/number combination doesn't get issued before hand.
I was wondering if I could pay a minimal fee to have it reserved for future use.

I am in NY state and as soon as I registered the car, I had the plates special made to match the CA plates, but I keep the NY plates locked IN the car and continue to display the CA plates ON the car. So far I have not been stopped by the police, but then the car only goes out only 2 or 3 times a year so there is little chance of it happening.

Who says the California DMVn doesn't love hot rods.. they will sell these like hotcakes. I have real ones on my 67 Mustang but I'm getting in line for a set on my black 2002 Thunderbird. I wonder if the originals will become worthless if they have been "restored" now. I suspecting , yes.

I sent in the form and my $50 and didn't include the current license plate # of my car and they called me and asked.

I hope its a sign that they are really going to do this

I like the original black plates myself. I have a set in the garage right now.
