Confused 1967 RUG-M vs RUG-M1 toploader trans??????

I know these 2 trannies are the same internally so what is the difference? Was it a plant difference? Was there a cutover date? I just want to make sure I get it right. I have searched the forum and the internet with no clear answer. Any help is appreciated.

Per David Kee RUG M-1 was a 67-390 and the RUG M-2 was a 68 390 and 390 GT both wide ratio, 28 spline.

I think nothing more than maybe a minor casting change. function wise the same. I've got the M1 in my 67, no problems.
