Tongue 67'68 Mustang front Cougar type speakers

A common topic on here is front stereo speakers. Kick panel speakers are a frequent answer. The 67/68 models have the windshield washer pedal behind a kick panel speaker.

Some have modified the cowl panels to fit speakers like was done on factory stereo speakers on 67/68 Cougar and 68/69 Torino.

Anyone tried/used the actual OEM Cougar/Torino enclosure pods? Do they fit? The fenders are different not obvious they would fit.

I'm planning to buy a pair of these and get quotes for deep drawn aluminum or vacuum formed repros. Seems like these would be an alternative for 67/68Mustang people willing to do the extra work and maintain stock appearance interior with the bonus of access to the washer pedal and dimmer.

Thoughts?

My main concern is if they will fit behind the fenders. Wondering if/why Rick at NPD or Scott Drake hasn't pushed for these? I'll be happy to pop for $96 plus shipping and give them a try unless someone says no way, won't come close to fitting!!

This came up a few days ago. They seem to work great but are 100+ a set for the pods.

Boom, that's what reminded me. Not to minimize but $100 today will get you a repro tail light lens or plastic headlight housing for your Camry! Last I priced factery OEM parts headlight housings were $300-$500 each!

If authenticity is not a priority for you, try a pair of
these these
. They should be shallow enough to clear the fenders and accommodate modern mids (up to ~2.5").

They fit fine with no problems for me! Grills can be a challenge, which im working on right now.

Yes, Crutchfield sells those for door speakers. The ones from Crutchfield are a very flexible foam. Thanks for the idea.

Can you post pics? They don't interfere with fender structure? I was thinking about the kick panels as another project. Possibly glued in open mesh screen. With my standard black interior black mesh wouldn't show much.
