Default Who has the Most Expensive Mustang When Purchased New?

I was just trying to figure out how much my 1970 Mach 1 cost when it was new, and wondered what everyone's car cost new. This is how my Marti reports Reads:

Mach 1 Option $3271.00
351C Engine $48.00
Cruise-O-Matic Tran. $201.00
Select-Aire Air Con. $380.00
Stereosonic Tape $134.00
Sport Deck Rear Seat $97.00
Power Steering $95.00
Power Brakes $65.00
Shaker Hood Scoop $65.00
Tilt Steering $45.00
Evaporative Emissions $37.00
Convenience Group $32.00
Tinted Glass - Complete $32.00
Intermittant Wind. Wipers $26.00
Del.Belts/Warning Lts $15.00
Blk Hood Stripe $13.00
Front Bumper Guards $13.00
F70x14 Belted w RWL $7.00

Total Cost $4576.00 Wow!

With all these options, it cost more than a Boss 429 car!! My car was a Dark Ivy Green Mach 1, with a White Interior built in San Jose on Halloween Day and sold 10 months later in August!! What was your worth??

Remember to figure the inflation involved....my '66 won't rack up that high, but some might get there with some inflation...

I would have to dig out the paperwork - but I recall it at about 3200 bucks. 1966 K-Coupe, special ordered new by my Dad with the automatic and chrome delete, day-nite mirror, rally-pack, interior decor, 2-speed wipers and a few other bits.......of coure he got about 1200 bucks for his 1962 Impalla SS trade in....haha

Plus dealer prep, tax, tag, title, etc. so the drive away price could be another 10 to 15 percent.

Did the Ford dealers back then tend to overinflate the price of a new model above the sticker if the interest warranted? Consequently, did they also discount them to bring in the new years model, or did they stick to the sticker price?

Are we limiting this to first Gen cars?

Doesn't have to be just 1st Gen cars. Interesting how much more pricey everything has become, while wages have not done the same. Your buying power was much greater in the 60's and 70's than it is today!!

You're now having to pay for 40+ years of union negotiations and retirements. Also, don't forget the DOT regulations and requirements that make the cost go up too. Airbags are not cheap.

In 64 I was a new engineer making $6000/yr. Feeling rich I ordered a 64 1/2 Mustang vert
D code 4 speed $3100 list, signed for $2950. Verts were selling for 10-20% above list. Got my special order for 5% under list. The bottom line MSRP included shipping and dealer prep. Taxes varied by state so were not included.

IMO inflation and auto prices are about even. Big, huge, enormous difference is today there are a lot less jobs with high level pay. In 64 I could take my pick of 10 offers for similar pay all within 100 miles from where I was living.

By the way in 64 most skilled labor jobs payed as much or more than what engineers were paid. That's supply and demand...nothing to do with fairness! Sad thing today job pay is misleading. A high percent of technical/engineering jobs are Chinese, India, Israeli, Japan etc. People from other countries are gradually taking over. They are good, know what they are doing. We are beyond the time where we can sit on our butts and rake it in!

that car is fairy well optioned but why did they charge for black hood stripes $13 when that was std equiptment on M1's

unless b/c of the white interior it came with white hood stripes and they changed the order

Mine was $4397.20
