Is Stanger53 still the place for steering rebuilds?
I have a steering box and control valve from my 67 I need rebuilt and was wondering if Randy is still the place to go. Prices from his website say they are effective from 2008 and I’ve seen a few posts over the years from folks asking if Randy’s still around after not hearing from him for a month or more at a time. I’d like to have my car back on the road by May/June.
Thanks for any input.

I sent Randy an e mail about 2 months ago and he replied. I now also have a box that needs rebuilt, sent an e mail with a few questions about 2 weeks ago, have not herd back, maybe busy for the holidays? I hope to hear from him soon, he is just down the road from me and can't wait to see what a 16:1 box will do compared to a 19:1 box.

Have you gone by his place?
Does he work out of his garage or does he have a business front?
I've kind of wondered what kind of a business he has, seems like he
is a one man operation and does the work as a side business?
He is very good at what he does, I have been very pleased with his work.
Randy rebuilt a steering box for me 7-8 years ago, did a great job, but took a while. I've since found Dan at Chockostang, super nice guy and very, very, knowledgable! Take a look at his Ebay store or his website, I bought a complete already rebuilt '65 pwr steering system for just about the same price as having my old one rebuilt, had it in a couple days. He will buy your old stuff too. This reminds me....I've got a pump I need to send him for a rebuild.....

Never used him, but most posters are very satified if you can handle the lack of quick communication and slow turn around.

Sent my parts in to Randy this time last year and still not sure when I'll get them back. If you are not in any kind of a hurry the workmanship is supposed to high quailty. I have also purchased parts from Dan at Chocko and have found him to be very easy to work with. Nothing against Randy just be prepared for a wait. Had I known it would have been this long I likely would have gone in a different direction.
As someone who will need to replace/restore power steering components on two cars sometime this year, I can say that a 1 year wait ongoing with no ETA is not appealing to me whether in a rush or not. Power steering components are not exactly cheap by my lowly working man's standards and having them out of my possession for that length of time would make me wonder if I was ever going to get them back. I'm leaning towards Chockostang based on forum feedback. I'm sure Stanger/Randy does quality work, but no work is worth the level of uncertainty he brings by not offering any sort of consistency or confidence with regard to ETA.

Fastback......I use the term "down the road" loosely since this is a global forum. I live in the Dallas/Ft Worth area of TX and believe they are in the San Antonio area of TX, so on a global scale, they are down the road lol.
If I do not hear back soon and see others having the same issues, my send the box to Chock.
