Default Ford Crate Engine Feedback?

I am at the point in my resoration, feels funny calling it that, more like at the point in my quest to have a nice driver... of doing engine work. My car currently has a 289 which runs, but smokes and is hard starting now and then. I'm looking at purchasing a Ford Racing Crate engine (M-6007-X302*).

Thoughts guys? I am looking at two different shops to do the work. I will be selecting one of them in a couple weeks.

I have had a great experience with BluePrint Engines. I bought a "custom" 347 from them directly. Andrew is great to work with. They have a nice variety of ford engine combos. I think they are even building a 306 now. Can't beat their warranty either, 3 years 50k miles.

you would likely have a nice "driver" with that motor. but it's really an overyhyped stockish 302. i've had a few high mileage 5.0 motors with HCI make same or more power for far less money.

I'll also second the Blueprint option. I put a Blueprint 331 in my 65 FB in Sept. '12. Solid engine, about 900 miles on it before winter set in. As mentioned, good warranty, good pricing, easy to work with.

I'm running that Ford crate engine. I have about 5,000 miles on it. I think it's a good engine for the $. It's not a race engine, so if you want a lot of HP and torque look at a stroker. If you are looking for a reliable and very street capable engine, I think you'll be happy. It's plenty of power for my needs.

I've got about 2500 miles on a M-6007-X302B and are happy. Air gap manifold and 650HP Holley and she did 349.5hp on the engine dyno.

I've looked at that engine for quite some time. I have never read a glowing report. Most seem to say its a stock type replacement and/or not as powerful as hoped. I did have a quote on one from powered by ford to install in a 67. A whole lot of stuff needs changing/buying to make work unless you have take off parts from your current engine.

These are suppose to be 360hp which is same as a edelbrock topend kit which is way cheaper than that engine. So buy top end kit plus a rebuild kit and do it yourself.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Lots to consider for sure. My engin guy is looking to push a Jasper engine. I've had 3 guys from my Mustang club give this guy and engines a thumb up.. doesn't hurt to ask you guys as well!
