Default larger oil pan - which one

hi everybody,

my 65 Fastback is running with a larger oil pump (haven't been able to verify so far) and oil pan. at some Point in life someone welded a very custom pan which i want to replace. i have attached a Picture of the pan.

now i don't know how much oil the pan holds. can anyone tell by the look which size i should get and does anyone have a recommendation which pan to geht in Order to fit a large oil pump?

ist a 289 with agressive cam. no racer but street.

thx

If you are looking for a larger capacity oil pan I would look into a 7 quart Canton oil pan and pick up. #15-610

+1 on the Canton Oil Pan, Windage Tray, & Pick-Up tube. If you live in a place where it snows I would powder coat the pan. The zinc coating doesn't react well with some salts used on the roads.

Why not just install a regular oil pump and regular pan?

That's a deep sump drag race pan. Definitely looks homemade. Unless there's a deep sump pick up tube, the pan is a waste. Oh, and watch out for speed bumps or sharp dips in the road. They'll tear that pan open. Don't ask me how I know.

I'd just go back to a stock style replacement oil pan and a stock oil pump and pick up.

i was told that this wont be enough for this engine. this is why this homemade oil pan was installed in the first place. engine will Need more oil and is supposed to have a larger oil pump. i didnt check so far.

now i am a rookie and learning my way around...would stock be enough? not sure.

When you say it has a larger oil pump it more then likely has a high volume oil pump. If the engine was built with loose tolerances as some engines are then installing a stock oil pump could result in low oil pressure. If you are not sure and are not having any issues I would just leave the pump and install a new pan with the correct pick up. The one I recomended is the same pan that I use on my 347 and does not hang down any lower then the stock pan.

Unless you are racing the car, the large pan should not be required.

For ground clearance, the aluminum Cobra 7 qt would be an excellent choice.

You could run a repop Cobra pan. The look is nice, the quality is ? I had to modify mine some for the fit I wanted.
