Heater Fan Installation ?

Bought my car as a shell and slowly briging it back to life. Have heater assembly ready to go in but not sure about fan istall...

Does it simply get sandwiched between the housing and the firewall, or should I use nuts to hold it to the housing first? Thanks

- Gord
