Randy did work for me on two occasions, got my parts back and rebuilt but
took awhile, that was about 5 years ago.

I've been there, so it does, or did, exist (about 4 years ago).

I dropped off several steering boxes, some as cores, some to be rebuilt, a couple centerlinks, and a group of pumps. I dropped them off in person, as my son was stationed in San Antonio. I have left a couple phone messages also,

Here is what I have there, over 1 year now:

Order 1, customer owned, not mine:

3 - 68 gear boxes, 2 were power steering units: 1 for rebuild, 2 for cores
3 - 65 thru 67 long shaft, 2 manual, 1 power: 1 manual for rebuild, rest cores
4 - other gear boxes for cores.

Order 2: My Stuff

4 gear boxes, 2 were 65 - 67 ps boxes, one 65 66 std, and one 68 PS
2 pumps, one 65 66 AC and one 67 68
one center link with valve, 67 68.

I have an email trail, starting in July of last year. I realize Randy is busy. As first, he had just forgotten about my stuff, according to him, as most were just for cores, not for rebuild, as the cores were to "pay" for the rebuilds. I have several more emails since then, all stored in my files, but no reponse, the last being in December, no response.

Starting to lose hope on getting back my stuff. I paid for the customer units out of my own pocket, so they were not out their stuff. At this point, I would be happy just getting BACK all the stuff I left.

14 gear boxes
2 pumps
1 complete power steering center link,

or a check for the core value of the stuff.

Sounds like a lot of the comments heard about Pony Carbs. shortly before their demise. If I had parts sitting that long with someone who fails to, or might be be avoiding my calls or email, I'd ask/demand that my parts be returned immediately. Previous threads about Randy led me straight to Chockostang, where the excellent rebuild was matched by the outstanding customer service. Just my two cents.

I've butted heads with Dan (Chock) on a matter of opinion (hey, debate is great), but he WILL communicate. I'd have no fear of sending Dan parts to rebuild that I couldn't do myself.

Default Anyone heard from Randy

I sent Randy at Precision Pruducts a control valve in August and have not got it back yet, even worse he is has not responed to any of my emails or phone calls. I have reached a point that I want my valve back to send somewhere else, but unsure how to do this if I can't contact him. What would you guys do?

I don't know that there is a lot you can do, except continue to call and email (it worked for me, when I was in the same boat). Be a pest. He will respond eventually. He's been around a long time and has had these communication problems for a long time. I don't know of anyone who's been, outright, ripped off.

This is all very strange. I emailed him in October about his rebuild kits. I got a very prompt and courteous email explaining things. I placed an order and got my kits very fast.
Hmmm...maybe he needs to hire some help. I feel like others, theres no excuse for bad customer service and NO communication.
I would not hesitate to use Chocko for any of his services. He mailed me a front disc kit and everything about it was excellent!

I think he is just a one man opperation. If he is there, he is working on parts, not answering emails. It's not very good customer service, but as others have said, I don't think he rips people off. He really should hire some people if he is that busy. Get somebody to handle the customer service side of the business and maybe a helper in the shop.

Honestly, I need some stuff rebuilt and I considered using them. But with these threads always around, Dan/Chock is going to be getting my business. I need my parts back in weeks, not years.

He is a one man operation. His shop is about 50 yards behind his house.Shop is the size of the average 2 car garage.
He out sources most of the heavy machine work, and as of 4 years ago when I was there he was between machinest.
I have a suspicion about is practices but I will not share them, but if he needs spares he has to wait for them to come in.

He has a lot of 19:1 manual cores, not many 16:1.
He was doing about 100% rebuilds on the PS control valves, and they are very nice but he wants several before he takes them to the machine shop.
Nice guy to talk to in person but I got the feeling health is a factor in his turn around time too.

Well I am also a little confused on his address, someone said his shop is 50 yards behind his house, however if you google map the address where he tells you to ship items, it looks like it is in the middle of a shopping center, it certainly is not in a residential area. How can "Suite 217-282" be a valid address Has anyone been to this address below??

I live in Minnesota, so a little out of my way.

Precision Products
24165 IH-10 West
Suite 217-282
San Antonio, Texas 78257-1159

Thanks

that's just a mail drop. I've been to his shop. It is a small building behind his home.

It should not be a surprise to anyone on this forum that Randy will do things differently than a traditional business. Even years ago when he did my steering box, it took several months.

At this stage in his life, I doubt if he gives a rats a** how fast anyone wants their parts restored. He will do it when he feels like it, and not a minute before. Are there other alternatives out there who will do comparable work in a more reasonable time frame?

Sure.

And if you are needing parts for a project approaching completion in a year or less, then don't send Randy your stuff, use someone else. For restoring parts that I was going to keep as spares, and had no time frame for needing them, I would use Randy. For anything else I would use Jim Cowles at Shelby Parts & Restoration
