Default V8 switch from auto to 4spd?

How difficult is it to switch a 66-289 AOD to a 4spd car? I'm wandering if it would be worth my trouble and time.
I currently have the entire interior out as well as fuel system. Car is up on stands as I am replacing entire front suspension and re-hanging all the sheetmetal that was removed to refinish areas.
I am guessing that besides the obvious tranny I would need,
proper driveshaft & clutch pedal. But what else?

Thanks
Mike

Have you considered a T5 5-speed? Bolts in with a couple of adapters as though it were factory original.

I have not considered it. I must admit, it is an idea that just popped in my head today and I really don't know anything about which style tranny to look for or would be best/easiest.
Can you elaborate on the T5? What model years, where to get adapters, how much am I looking at for swap, etc?

I appreciat all your knowledge.

Mike

I did that on my 66. It's pretty straight forward but it the little things typical with anything that pop up. Such as the speedometer hole in the firewall is a different location, LH pitch speedometer driven gear and a few others. I took a bunch of pictures so one day I could make a post for this.

I'm using sealed roller bearings on my peddle hanger, made my own clutch linkage with rod ends. Works great. I thought about a T5 and even went so far to buy one. It's sitting in my basement. I like the 4 speed very much. I still have my 2.8's The 2.78 1st gear is low enough to start off pretty easy and cruises nice at 70. Not too high, not too low. The Toploader is much, much stronger too. PM me if you have any questions.

My linkage, very easy and cheap to make.

Knock out location in firewall for clutch rod. Like a knock out on an electrical box, it's there just knock it out

peddle hanger bearing, I highly recommend!

Thanks for the helpful hints.

What year(s) T5 should I be looking for? How much should I expect to pay. Saw one on Craigslist today for $450, tranny only. I thought that was high, but maybe I'm nieve.

Thanks
