Default Defroster V-clips are driving me insane

Maybe someone can help me here.

I bought a Classic Auto Air setup and the defroster ducts are Scott Drake replicas. Very nice quality. However, as these are a thicker plastic, plus the new dash pad vinyl between the duct and dash, I can't get the V-clip in.

It either won't clip in, or it bends so much that the clip slides under the duct. Urgh!

So, I'm going to try a different V-clip. If that doesn't work, what would be wrong with putting in some other sort of clip or a bolt? I was thinking that something like the firewall pad retaining clip would be good. All sorts of sizes at the hardware store.

What do you guys think?

I don't see how the clip is going through. I have the plastic replacement nozzles over a repro pad. If the CAA nozzles are too thick to just push the clips in from the top, use something else. The firewall pin head is too big, though.

I had the same problems with mine so I just used smaller headed push pins like was described by the op. worked fine

So, I ended up just bolting the thing in. I never could get the V-clips to work. I ended up not using the push pins as I had bolts that were the perfect size.

I have seen several items from "Scott Drake" that the quality / fit / size / finish was off considerably from the original. Makes one wonder if the price we pay for a so called premium replacement is worth it?

What parts would those be?

My opinion is that the Scott Drake has actually been too good in a lot of cases. These defroster ducts are just a little thicker than the old ones that fell apart. I would rather have this problem that have ducts that fall apart. really, the V-clips were just not long enough. Otherwise, they would have been just fine.

Had the same problem, but fortunately I has an original clip to compare the two. The Drake part has "barbs" that are just too long. I had to clip the tops off the barbs and spread them out just a hair and they worked perfect.
