Default Drive or trailer your Mustang?

1. OK, I'm not trying to start a fight! 2. I understand certain Mustangs (like Laurie's Murphy, original owner, etc) need to be trailered for historical value.
Now, I'm sorry to all of you who fix your car up then trailer it but I really can't understand that. Mustangs are meant to be driven not museum pieces. I've gone to shows where regular Mustangs (that should be DD or occasionally driven) are trailered then "driven" to the show field. 2 months after I finished mine, I drove it 1,800 miles roundtrip to Seattle to an MCA show. Had a breakdown, sure, but our cars are old. (Rant off LOL)
So, what do you guys think?

Whats the point of having a car if you don't drive it?. Yesterday, nice weather. Down to BK, 2011 RAV4, no. 1967 Coupe, 8 miles RT of pure joy.

When I finally am able to take Trouble to a show that requires more than one day of travel, I will trailer the car just for security overnight at a motel.

BTW, I do drive both cars.

Brought mine home on a trailer because it had no engine. Hopefully that's the last time.

Electrical. Wrong part of the wiring harness. It too about 4 hours to figure it out. Laurie was with me on that trip and I thought very seriously of trying to put my car in the trailer with Murphy! LOL

Like many of us, I have visions of driving Route 66 or a long distance car rally or something. My car is in great shape but who knows what can happen and I am NOT a mechanic. I do have a AAA card in my wallet.
Driving in a caravan would be different because there would most likely be 'experts' in the group to help. Going solo is a different story. Have to get my confidence up before going too far. Sixty miles to a car show is the longest drive yet.

I want a road king, not a trailer queen.

I thought I was going to have to pull Murphy out and put yours in!

For the record, my coupe was my daily driver from 1968 to 1985, and I drove the car from Michigan to Arizona, and back again, several times. I also drove the car on the Pony Trails at the 2004 Utah National. The car is very driveable despite the bias tires. I choose to protect it by traveling in an enclosed trailer. I think the car has more than earned the ride.

Any of you should read chairwriter's story. He's the one that was one of the main contributers on the long thread "put a sub woofer in 68 vert". Chairwriter took a 10,000+ miles around and arcross the country in his beautiful 67 vert. IIRC he keeps his wheel chair in the back seat area and much of his writing stuff in the trunk.

Hope I didn't get the story screwed up Chairwriter,

Slim

My 68 vert has been a driver since I bought it in 77. Never been shown, never intended it to. I was a judge in a National Early Ford show and organized several early Ford shows.

Going back to the late 60's, our family has always taken the position of safety for ourselves & others comes 1st, protection of our cars is second.....when taking our vehicles out there are always time of day/traffic/route considerations.....if anyone has ever driven as an example in the 'devils triangle" in Orange County (where the 405, 605 & 5 meet)...it is not unusual for someone to be tailgating (within 2 feet of your bumper) you in the fast lane at 80 mph.....and the tailgater- likely non-insured & poorly maintained....or even in rush hour, a vehicle operator traveling at 70+ mph on the shoulder..........

If the travle distance is greater than a couple of hours or we will likely be dealing with "sunday drivers" then we trailer.....the reason...aside from the usual accident avoidence issues, when people see the cars, they look, they stare & naturally turn their steering wheels into you......when on a trailer, by the time they see the car we are past them....and if they do become "catetonic" they will just hit the trailer instead....confort & relaxation of driving to an event or ? is not only importnat, but our personally safety is as well.
